“Open Up” Something your den st might say? How are ears opened? And mouths freed to speak? Many

mes it’s a ‘human connec on’ that makes a difference in what and how we hear, and what and for whom we speak. Jesus ‘touched’ the man’s ears and tongue …that indeed was a ‘human touch’. When we “hear” the other person’s story, their journey, it leads us to a deeper apprecia on of who they are, what they have gone through. Our eyes and ears are opened by that human touch …to see others as brothers and sisters and children of God. On the human level, dialog, hearing and speaking is what differen ates us from the rest of crea on. As we listen we are allowing something of the other person to enter into us, and speech is our primary way of communica on. On the theological level we understand God’s communica on with us as “word”, and most especially with the “Word made flesh”. When Jesus opened the deaf man’s ears he gave him the ability to relate to others and allowed the word of God to communicate with his heart. Hearing precedes speech. Aha, something we need to keep in mind …that our ears are open to learn and to then be cau ous in making judgments or being quick to speak.

23º domingo en empo ordinario "¿No escogió Dios a los pobres del mundo para que sean

ricos en fe y herederos del reino que prome ó a los que lo aman?" (SANTIAGO 2: 5)

¿Qué es más importante: ser rico en fe o rico en posesiones? La sociedad nos enseña que las posesiones son lo más

importante. Dios enseña una lección diferente. Cuando somos ricos en fe, mantenemos a Dios primero en todas las

cosas y nos damos cuenta de que las cosas materiales en realidad no importan y que es más importante compartirlas

con los que menos tienen.

“Ábrete” Quizás es algo que va a decir su den sta. ¿Cómo

se abre oídos? ¿Y bocas para poder hablar? Muchas veces es una conexión humana que hace la diferencia en cuanto a lo que oímos y lo que decimos. Jesús “tocó” las orejas y lengua del hom-bre …eso, sí, fue un ‘toque humano’. Cuando “escuchamos” la vida de otras personas, su caminar, eso nos lleva a una apreciación más profunda de quienes son y lo que han vivido. Nuestros ojos y oídos se abren por medio de ese toque humano …a ver a los demás como

hermanos y hermanos e hijos de Dios. Al nivel humano, el dialogo, el escuchar y hablar, es lo que nos dis ngue de lo demás de la creación. Mientras escuchamos permi mos que algo de la otra persona entre en nosotros, y el hablar es mayormente como nos comunicamos. Al nivel teológico entendemos la comunicación de Dios con nosotros como “palabra”, especialmente con “la Palabra hecha carne”. Cuando Jesús abrió los oídos del sordo, le dio la capacidad de relacionarse con otros y permi ó que la palabra de Dios se comunique con su corazón. El escuchar precede a el hablar. Aha, algo que debemos quedar en mente …que nuestros oídos estén abiertos a aprender y luego con cuidado juzgar o no hablar tan rápidamente.

23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time “Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to

be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him?” (J 2:5)

What is more important – being rich in faith or rich in

possessions? Society teaches us that possessions are most important. God teaches a different lesson. When we are

rich in faith, we keep God first in all things and realize that material things really don’t matter and that it’s more

important to share with those who have less.

Development Corner When was the last time your reviewed your Last Will & Testament? During a lifetime, changes occur – marriages happen, children are born or adopted, deaths occur. Any of these circumstances any many others can trigger the need to change your will. No estate is too small for a proper will. If you want your legacy to go where you desire, you must have a will. Reviewing your will provides you the opportunity to make sure the people and charitable causes most important to you are remembered. Have you ever seen a U-Haul attached to the back of a hearse?

Rincón para Desarrollo ¿Cuándo fue la última vez que pensaba en tener prepara-do un “Testamento”? Durante la vida cosas cambian: matrimonios, hijos, muertes. Cualquier de éstos puede causar a uno cambiar su pensar en cuanto a su “testamento”. Sea mucho o poco lo que uno tenga, tener un testamento es algo importante. Por medio de un testamento, uno mismo es quien decide qué personas o instituciones caritativas recibirán sus bienes.

God’s blessings to all students and teachers returning to school for the 2018-19 school year. With the children’s safety in mind we ask that after September 3rd you please NOT park by the fire hydrant across the street, nor by the school bus loading and unloading zones directly in front of our church building. Parking is allowed in church lot for 7:30 am weekday services, but cars may not be in parking lot after 8:10 am. Thank you for your cooperation! Tomando en cuenta la seguridad de los niños, les pedimos que, a partir del 3 de septiembre NO se estacionen cerca al hidrante localizado al lado de la calle y en el área en frente del templo donde los autobuses suben y bajan pasajeros. PARISH PARKING ESTACIONAMIENTO

Educación Religiosa/Religious Education Las clases de Educación Religiosa han comenzado y contamos con aproximadamente 215 personas registradas. ¡Casi la mitad de ellos son estudiantes de escuelas secundarias y High School! Hoy durante la Misa, P. Bill comisionará a nuestros catequistas como encargados del Programa de Educación Religiosa. El próximo fin de semana, en Domingo Catequético, un grupo de nuestros catequistas asistirá al Jubiléo para Catequistas y Líderes de RICA en la Catedral de San Francisco Xavier, donde recibirán una bendición especial del Obispo David Ricken. Por favor manténgan-los y a otros catequistas de nuestra diócesis en oración para que tengamos un fructífero año 2018-19 de Formación en la Fe. Religious Ed classes have begun and we’re off to a great start with approximately 215 registrants, about half of them being middle and high school students! Today during Mass, Fr. Bill will lead the commissioning for our catechists at our parish. Next weekend, on Catechetical Sunday a group of our catechists will attend the Jubilee for Catechists and RCIA Leaders at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral where they will receive a special blessing by Bishop David Ricken. Please keep them and other catechists in our diocese in prayer that we may have a fruitful 2018-19 Faith Formation year.
