T here is a true power to be found in pa-

tience, gentleness and honest caring--

the Power of the Living God. This

power is transferred to you and me, His ser-

vants, when we imitate that Divine Patience,

that Divine Gentleness, and that Divine love. It

frees those who are bound and brings light to

the darkness--enlightenment. The author of the

Acts of the Apostles (who we think also au-

thored the Gospel of Luke) wants us to see that

this sort of power was seen in JESUS, Who in

His Own quiet way, walked the hills of Judah,

healing people--no fanfare, no trumpets--just a

Quiet Presence that HEALED. In the Gospel,

we see a humble Christ, wanting the "bath for

sinners" and John saying, "Oh, NO! YOU

should be baptizing ME!" But He entered the

waters of transformation, and Voice which no

one else understood spoke, and the healing be-

gan. The word "salvation" in Latin comes from

"salus," which really means "healing," or

"health." The saved soul is the soul "healed"

by the touch of the Christ. And that Christ

works through us, His Family, today. May we

be healers of humanity, not dividers. May our

lives be benedictions that mend the tears in the

fabric of our web of human relations this week.

- Fr. Bill Axe

a MÍ!”

¿Cómo for-

Hermana Karen

T oday marks the end of the Christmas

Season and the beginning of Ordi-

nary Time with a very special feast,

the Baptism of Jesus. Jesus baptism is not

like ours, since he had no sin and yet it is

like ours in that Jesus began His public min-

istry after His baptism and our baptism made

us participants in that ministry. This is a time

for us to stop and reflect on how we are shar-

ing in the ministry of Jesus. The Church “is”

the people of God and not a place. How am I

a part of that? This may be a New Year’s

resolution for each of us to ponder. How can

I make the Church a better place to be and

how can I help my neighborhood know who

I am? This doesn’t need to be in bold ways,

but in how I live out my life reflecting what

I believe in. I pray that this year will bring us

closer as Church and help St. Agatha’s be

better known in our little part of LA.

Have a blessed week,

Sr. Karen
