Tu mapa mental hacia el inglés
WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF WORDMAPS!

Bash can be a deliciously modest, little word. We come across it in the adjective bashful, meaning tímido bashfulness (timidez). It is this nuance (matiz) of modesty that we must bear in
mind (debemos tener en cuenta) when using the expression to have a bash at something. I’ll have a bash at it is a bit like saying I’ll try or I’ll do my best, but don’t expect much. It’s a great one to use when you know you’re not very good at something, like me when it comes to DIY, which stands for Do It Yourself and is our equivalent to your bricolaje. Now, I am particularly bad at DIY so whenever anyone asks me to do something around the house, I always say I’ll have a bash at it. For example, I’ll have a bash at putting up the shelves (baldas), and that way, no one has any great expectations. Should things go wrong (Si las cosas salen mal), nobody can say I didn’t warn them! So, if someone says to you I’ll have a bash at fixing your car, do yourself a favour and call in a professional!
to bash your headHave you bashed your head, Tommy?
Don’t cry... it’s OK!¿Te has dado un golpe en la cabeza, Tommy? No llores... ¡no pasa nada!

IMPRESS YOUR FRIENDS!Si vas a organizar una fiesta en tu casa y piensas invitar a tus amigos ingleses, no te quedes con: I’m having a party on
Friday; do you fancy coming? Di: I’m having a bit of a bash on Friday;
fancy coming? ¡y alucinarán con tu nivelazo de inglés!

ENJOY SAYING IT!
PISTA · 1
THIS WORD HAS A PAST!
de los verbos to bang, to smash y to dashmismo: golpear o dar un golpe. Tres de ellos – to bang, to smash y to bash – se conservan en el
lenguaje actual.
