Monitoring oil and gas pipelines

•It is essential that the energy supply can be secured and the safe operation of facilities can be guaranteed

•Theft by the diversion of gas or oil from the pipeline endangers the security and functionality of pipelines

•UAS systems could offer flexibility and high endurance, because it can operate at different altitudes and is always available to observe the territory in question


Monitoring the power grid

•UAS will allow the customers to accurately position the power poles and measure the distance from the power lines to the surrounding vegetation

•It is also possible to identify icing problems with high resolution camera or to detect problem components using radio noise measurements and IR-cameras

•UAS are less expensive and faster than use of helicopter or ground based inspections

•UAS inspection is documented by data and images


Protecting maritime transportation from piracy

•The waters off the coast of Somalia have been especially affected by pirate attacks on shipping

•UAS are used for reconnaissance purposes after pirate attacks

•MALE and HALE systems make it possible to observe a very large area of the affected region for a continuous period, so that quickly-approaching pirate vessels can be seen as early as possible


Monitoring high value transportation highways and railways

•UAS can be used to surveillance the general situation and highways or railways conditions in normal traffic, can offer support during accidents, or can be used for scientific research on transportation

•UAS can collect data about the volume of highways traffic

•UAS could be conducted without additional personnel expense and almost independently of duration limits
