    COVID19 PROCEDURES

What happens if someone has contracted COVID-19?

    • If a student/staff member has been exposed to, suspect, or has a confirmed positive

COVID19 case, they must immediately report to the building principal/school nurse.

    (identify is confidential).

    1. The school nurse will contact students/staff to investigate and complete COVID19 Case Report.

    2. The school nurse will identify areas/buildings where student/staff was present. These areas will be deep cleaned.

    3. The school nurse will contact parents, students, and staff to inform them of possible exposure and school closure (if applicable)

    4. The school nurse/principal will contact the Health and Medical Services (HMS) Director or School Nurse Manager.

    5. Should a building be closed all parents will be notified, HISD Facilities will determine the deep cleaning and sanitation timeline (the timeline will be based on the size of the campus; the goal is to have the building closed for no more than one day).

    6. In the event school is closed, students will continue instruction virtually until the building is reopened (students are expected to take their laptops/Chromebooks home daily).

    • Closure of campus is determined on a case by case basis by HMS & Facilities & Management Operations.

    • Contact tracing will be implemented. Affected students, families, and staff will be notified by the campus if they have been exposed to COVID19.

    • Affected students and staff will self-quarantine for 14 days. Students who are face-to-face can engage in virtual instruction during those 14 days to keep up with instruction and assignments. Parents and students should communicate with teachers. Quarantine days will not be counted as absences.

    • During the school day, if a student requests to go to the nurse or is sent to the nurse and exhibits Covid19 related symptoms (diarrhea, consistent cough, loss of taste/smell, fever), the student will need to be picked up by a parent/guardian and quarantined by 14 days. The student can return to school before the 14 days only with a doctor’s note.

    EMERGENCY DRILLS

    • FBMS will continue to follow all outlined district and campus safety protocols during emergency actions and emergency drills, including drills and emergencies related to fires, lockdown, shelter-in- place, and emergency evacuation.

    • The Safety Team will assign each physical classroom to one of two groups (Red

Group/Black Group) designated by a campus-printed sign at each classroom.

    • An administrator will provide instructions via intercom prior to the drill, notifying staff and

students that a drill is commencing and instructing one designated group to delay exiting their

classroom for a specific period of time (i.e, 90 seconds) to reduce pedestrian load in hallways

and exit points. At the conclusion of the drill, the groups will stagger their re-entry to the

    building to maintain social distancing.

    • After each drill, staff and students will be reminded that in an actual emergency, they

must exit/evacuate without delay and without staggered exit/evacuation.

    • In the event of an actual emergency, administration will emphasize that social distancing will

not be required but should be followed when possible.
