“For today in the city of David a Savior has been born for
you who is Messiah and Lord!”
Merry Christmas to all of you!
This is my ninth Christmas with you as part of
our STA Family. Being a part of this family of
faith has been the greatest blessing of my life. It
is with great love and gratitude that I celebrate
Christmas Mass with you and for you. We have been
through a lot together over these years and especially
during this time of the pandemic. Sometimes the world
we live in can be troublesome and challenging.
But the message of the Christmas story is one of hope!
It’s a story of our God, who breaks into the chaos of the
world, and offers His unconditional presence to us.
And just as God offered that presence in Jesus to the
world 2,000 years ago, he continues to offer that pres-
ence to each of us every day!
During Advent we have been making the effort to grow
in holiness through the four holy habits of daily
prayer, regularly celebrating the Sacrament of
Reconciliation, selfdenial, & keeping Sundays holy.
We want to be holy so that we can help to bring Christ’s
presence into the world in a more powerful way!
As missionary disciples of Jesus, during this Christmas
Season, we can remind our loved ones that Jesus is our
Lord, Friend, and Savior, and that no matter the stress-
ors in your family life, God desires to be present with
us. This Christmas, give that presence to your children,
grandchildren, friends, and family members, sharing
with them the gift of faith in Jesus Christ.
On behalf of myself and our STA Parish Staff, I wish
you a blessed and merry Christmas!
Thank YOU
Thank you for all of your great generosity and goodness
to our STA Parish throughout the year and especially
during this Christmas time of year!

hace 2,000 años, ¡continúa ofreciendo esa presencia a ca-
porada navideña, podemos recordar a nuestros seres
dale esa presencia a tus hijos, nietos, amigos y familiares,

Let your goodness, Lord, appear to us,
That we, made in your image,
Conform ourselves to it.
In our own strength
we cannot imitate your majesty,
power and wonder;
Nor is it fitting for us to try,
But your mercy
reaches from the heavens,
through the clouds,
to the earth below.
You have come to us
as a small child,
But you have brought us
the greatest of all gifts,
the gift of eternal love.
Caress us with your tiny hands,
embrace us with your tiny arms,
and pierce our hearts
With your soft, sweet cries.
Amen.
~St. Bernard of Clairvaux
Que tu bondad, Señor, se nos aparezca,
Que nosotros, hechos a tu imagen,
Nos sometamos a ella.
No podemos imitar tu majestad,
poder y asombro;
con nuestras propias fuerzas.
Tampoco es apropiado que lo intentemos,
Pero tu misericordia
llega desde los cielos,
a través de las nubes,
abajo a la tierra.
Has venido a nosotros
como un niño pequeño,
Pero nos has traído
el más grande de todos los regalos,
el don del amor eterno.
Acariciarnos con tus diminutas manos,
abrázanos con tus diminutos brazos,
y traspasar nuestros corazones
Con tus suaves y dulces sollozos.
Amén.

Jn 1:1-18 & Lk 2:41-52
This year we celebrate both Christmas and the
Feast of the Holy Family on the same weekend.
It gives us a chance to look at the Incarnation
from two different perspectives. On Christmas
we celebrate the joy, the wonder, and the awe
that God should humble himself to be born as a
human being; to come among us as one of us. The
glory of Christmas day truly makes it one of the great
celebrations of the year. The Feast of the Holy Family
is a more intimate affair. In this year’s Gospel we hear
about 12year old Jesus in the Temple, and the fright
that his disappearance caused his family. It’s a brief
look into the actual family life of Jesus. We tend not to
think much about the daytoday life of the Holy
Family; their struggles, fears, joys and the mundane
minutiae that is life. What was it like to live in a
household with God present there? And yet we can
experience the same thing. Jesus can be with us every
day in our households if we invite him in to share our
struggles, fears, joys and, yes, even the minutiae that
makes up our everyday lives. Christmas marks the
celebration of Christ coming into our world, but we
need to remember it is not a oneday event. Yes, it is
important to keep Christ in Christmas but it is also
important to keep him in the day after that, and the day
after that, and the day after that. . .
by Dcn. Jerome Buhman
Jn 1:1-18 & Lc 2:41-52
Prayer for Life
For all Christians:
May the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ awaken in our

For all families:
That as the domestic Church, we may pursue
holiness, pass on the faith, and persevere in love;
We pray to the Lord.
Prayer for Justice
For all who welcome Jesus on this day:
that they may hear the cry of those for whom there is
no room in the inn and reach out to support effort to
curb homelessness;
We pray to the Lord.
Prayer for Peace
For all who walk with Jesus:
that they may “put on compassion, kindness, humility,
gentleness and patience, bearing with one another and
forgiving one another;”
We pray to the Lord.
va a maravillarnos ante el preciado don de cada niño;

Por todas las familias:
que como Iglesia doméstica busquen la santidad,
transmitan la fe y perseveren en amar;

The Sacraments of the Church nourish and strengthen our
faith and draw us deep into the loving embrace of Christ.
Please let us know how we can help you celebrate these
special encounters with him.
Coming Home to Faith—Reconciliation
Perhaps you or someone you know has been away from the
Church and feels awkward or as if you don’t belong. The
best way to come home is to celebrate the Sacrament of
Reconciliation. Confessing your own loss and confusion
and receiving absolution of your sins frees you to enter fully
into the life of the Church. You may celebrate this
sacrament at any of our regularly scheduled times or call to
make a private appointment with Fr. Bart at 8332600.
Anointing of the Sick
When people are seriously ill or hospitalized, the Sacrament
is celebrated individually. We urge you to contact us prior
to hospitalization for elective surgery if you would like to
be anointed. Let us know if someone is seriously ill or
homebound and would like to receive the Sacraments or a
home visit.
Confirmation
Many adults never celebrated Confirmation and have
missed out on the strengthening the Holy Spirit provides.
Contact Dcn. Jerome to learn about the preparation and
celebration of Confirmation at the Easter Vigil. Dcn.
Jerome also leads our Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
for those seeking adult baptism or becoming Catholic.
Matrimony
The fidelity and love of a married couple is a special sign
for us of Jesus’ promise to be with the Church always. We
take great joy in helping couples prepare for the sacrament.
If you plan to become engaged or have been civilly married
and want to marry in the Church, please contact Dcn.
Jerome for more info about our preparation opportunities.
Baptism and Sacraments for Children
If you seek baptism of a newborn or if you have an older
child who is not baptized or seeks Penance or Eucharist, we
are happy to work with you and welcome your child.
Contact Dcn. Jerome for more information.
We have been making the effort to grow in holiness
through the four holy habits of daily prayer, regularly cel-
ebrating the sacrament of Reconciliation, selfdenial, and
keeping Sundays holy. We want to be holy so that we can
help to bring Christ’s presence into the world in a more
powerful way! Fr. Bart
These four ‘holy habits’ are one way to respond to Bishop
Hying’s call for us to prepare ourselves to be evangelizers!
The Diocese of Madison is in the midst of an evangelizing
initiative called “Go Make Disciples.” Our task as believ-
ers is “to proclaim in a fresh way and with a bold impulse
the good news of Jesus Christ, of God’s love for us, of the
offer of salvation and forgiveness won for us by Jesus
through his death and resurrection; to speak of Jesus as if
people have never heard of him, because in many cases
they really haven’t, and so the Good News is both “Good”
and really “New” for us.” https://madisondiocese.org/gmd
We need to seek holiness in order to be equipped for the
work of missionary discipleship. We need to build our
confidence and competence to speak to others about Jesus
Christ. Many of our efforts at St. Thomas Aquinas this
year including Relit in both English and Spanish,
partnering with Evangelical Catholic (https://
www.evangelicalcatholic.org/), starting more small groups
in Lent, growing in our “holy habits,” and hosting a parish
mission in the spring are intended to help align us with
the Diocesan mission. We are excited to see all that the
Holy Spirit will do in our parish, and in our Diocese.
