Introduction

Throughout this presentation we would like to introduce you InfoDigg™ a platform for deploying Enterprise Content Management (ECM) projects, and help you out to understand a bit what is behind the hood of our technology.

This is not a commercial presentation, nor a in depth technical one. Think of this presentation as an in between.

Bear in mind that this is a self-contained presentation. Thus, expect lots of text instead of fancy pictures with nice animation effects, but we promise that you won’t get bored.

What it is InfoDigg ™InfoDigg™ is the evolution of several methodologies, applied strategies and technologies put together to create a complete platform for the evolution of an Enterprise Content Management (ECM). It comprises:

• Web Portal through a Rich Internet Application (RIA).

• Web Content Management System (WCMS).

• Document Management System (DMS).

• Mobile Application Development (MAD)

• Mobile Application Server (MAS)

• Recognition Technologies (OCR)

• Records Information Management (RIM).

• Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).

• Content Management Integration Services (CMIS)

• Team Collaboration.

Our goal during this presentation is to introduce you to the power of InfoDigg™ and help you to understand use cases for an ECM platform like ours.

First thing is to understand what an ECM is, for that let’s start by summarizing this concept.

What ECM Is… in Short…“ECM is an umbrella term covering document management, web content management, search, collaboration, records management, digital asset management, work-flow management, capture and scanning. ECM is primarily aimed at managing the life-cycle of information from initial publication or creation all the way through archival and eventually disposal. …ECM aims to make the management of corporate information easier through simplifying storage, security, version control, process routing, and retention.…ECM is used to overcome the restrictions of former vertical applications and island architectures. The user is basically unaware of using an ECM solution. ECM offers the requisite infrastructure for the new world of web-based IT, which is establishing itself as a king like a third platform alongside conventional host and client/server systems. Therefore, EAI (enterprise application integration) and SOA (service-oriented architecture) will play an important role in the implementation and use of ECM.…ECM is used as a content warehouse (both data warehouse and document warehouse) that combines company information in a repository with a uniform structure.…ECM thus is a collection of infrastructure components that fit into a multi-layer model and include all document related technologies (DRT) for handling, delivering, and managing structured data and unstructured information jointly.” -- (Source: Wikipedia – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enterprise_content_management)

Motivation Behind InfoDigg™

Sure you might wonder: “Sure, yet another ECM…”, and that’s fair enough, there are out there systems that do ECM (or claim to do so), from paid to open source, “why to compete with those?”

To answer, one has to know a bit the history behind of our company. During several years we have provided solutions for SOA, SCA, ESB, RIA, NoSQL, BPM, DMS, KMS and more in the enterprise. What we have always seen in companies (Specifically in LATAM) even if they belong to a regulated branch of industry, like banking, financial, health care, pharmaceuticals, government, telecommunications, etc., their implementation of procedures and the management of content and information is far behind of what it should be. These companies have struggled for years with internal procedures as well as technology, they have implemented several technologies, ranging from file shares to MS-SharePoint/Alfresco, to weird things in between and none of them giving the proper ROI by not lowering TTM nor TCO, but all have succeed on creating complex puzzles of technologies glued together clumsily.

By seen these problems, we’d come across that actually ECM translates into the following formula:

RIA + SOA + RIM + BPM + DMS + KMS + CMS + MAS = ECMAnd at River Software Technologies we have proven technologies for each of those areas:

riverPortals™ + Nilus™ SCA + StretchDB™ + riverBPM™ + riverDMS™ =

InfoDigg™ ≅ ECM

Motivation Behind InfoDigg™But we have not created just another ECM platform, we have incorporated industry standards and features hard to find in todays software in the market place. – We plan to show you which set of features stands us apart from the rest during this presentation –

We have created a platform from which creating complex solutions becomes a breeze, where we’d filled the gap between business analysts and technical people, and creating solutions so rapidly that a lower TTM and TCO is achievable in a single unique platform by not being like others: disparate bunch of solutions or expensive modules bought separately.

What we are going to say right now, we cannot backup publicly …YET, but we hope sooner we will:

InfoDigg™ is for ECM what SalesForce® is for CRM.A platform from which creating vertical solutions for different type of industries is easy because we have created a “Developing Platform” for ECM, with no need of experts that increase the TCO by means of expensive consulting fares. Enabling third party companies, freelancers, consultants, etc., extend its functionality or create new applications that can be plugged into InfoDigg™.

-- By the way, is worth knowing what SalesForce is, and does --

We strongly believe we have the right tools for the right job in today’s Enterprise ever changing scenario, where Information is the king, and content is the way to deliver that information.

The Problem Pattern What is absolutely a pattern in all enterprises, an even more in regulated ones, the following scenario:

• Several information systems and platforms that aggregate different information and processes from the business.

• Several business processes that target multiple application systems, needing to work together orchestrated.

• Information laying around in silos (File System, Disk Shares, Email Servers, DMS, etc.) in form of: Documents, Manuals, Forms, Images, Scanned Documents, Audio, Video, Emails, different format files, etc., completely disjoin from business context.

• Compliance, Collaboration, Continuity (by means that if an employee is not longer in the company “The show must go on”).

• Users not being able to find what they are looking for accurately, lots of manual processes across different application systems, gathering information to complete their duties.

• The thought that new business requirements require new developments perhaps, or might lead to new software acquisitions, which translates into longer TTM to deploy, higher TCO by acquiring new technologies, thus increasing the governance efforts to keep all up and running.

• Users not knowing their tools and what are meant for, increasing the complexity of simple achievable tasks by ignorance.

The Solution ≈ ECM InfoDigg™

Having in mind the concepts of an ECM, let’s explore the features InfoDigg™ complies with, an those that stand us apart from the rest.

Web Portal through a Rich Internet Application (RIA).

One of the key components of each ECM is Distribution, and a key component of this is a web portal where users can have a common place to collaborate and find all the information they need, and even do their job in a daily basis, by aggregating processes in a single interface when possible.

Here one of the proven technologies merged into InfoDigg™ is riverPortals™, that has proven record in Telefonica Telecom – Movistar – Colombia, and Fiduciaria Bogotá (Grupo AVAL / Colombia).

To summarize it provides:

• POJO Based Application Container – Think of it as an application container, like Tomcat for instance –

• Collaboration / Intranet / RIA• Role based security / Access Control Lists • Web Content Management System (WCMS)• Knowledge Management System (KMS)• Document Publishing System (DPS)

Page 10: Infodigg presentacion alto nivel v3.0 eng

The Solution ≈ ECM InfoDigg™Web Content Management System (WCMS).

As an integral component for any ECM, Web Content Management is key. “The scope of Enterprise content management integrates web content management systems. WCM as ECM component is used to present information already existing and managed in the ECM repository. However, information presented via Web technologies — on the Internet, an extranet, or on a portal — uses the workflow, access control, versioning, delivery and authorization modules of the WCM instead of integrated ECM functionality. There are only few examples of successful implementations whereby a shared repository for documents and web content are managed together.” – Wikipedia –

InfoDigg™ allows the seemly integration between CMS, WCMS and DMS, all in a single platform.

There are 3 ways of publish web content directly from the platform:

1. Creating web pages that contain widgets (HTML, HTML5, Web Mashups, JavaScript, etc.) that can be placed on active page zones. Most of the time this type of content is public.

2. By creating web publications that can be viewed only by those having the access rights to do so.

3. By Publishing a document (DOCX, XLS/XLSX, PPT/PPTX, IMAGE, PDF, etc.) that has been registered in the DMS provided in the InfoDigg™ ECM.

Page 11: Infodigg presentacion alto nivel v3.0 eng

One important feature InfoDigg™ has is acting as a DMS, an important component of any ECM system. InfoDigg™ allows the controlling of documents from creation to archiving. Providing standard functions like:

• Check in/check out – For checking stored information for consistency –

• Version management – To keep track of different versions of the same information with revisions and renditions –

• Search and navigation – For finding information and its associated contexts –

• Organizing documents – In structures like files, folders, and overviews –

The big difference in InfoDigg™ with other DMS can be summarized as we solve traditional DMS problems by:

• Breaking the document into pieces, divided by its inherent structure based on heading styles.• Creating publications based on topics, with automatic table of contents creation, ready for the Web.• Each topic produces valid consumable XHTML via any modern web browser either desktop, laptop, tablet

or smartphone, PDF and Word renditions.• Full-Text-Searching is an ease, because instead of searching through a whole document, we search into

topics giving the user exactly the part of the document that contains its search query, and provides him with the full publication context to navigate trough in XHTML and not just pointing to the document that contains inside the search term.

• Full categorization allowing to create complex taxonomies based upon business requirements.• Publication and retirement dates.• Access control by user or group of roles

The Solution ≈ ECM InfoDigg™Document Management System (DMS).

Page 12: Infodigg presentacion alto nivel v3.0 eng

Another important feature from InfoDigg™ is the recognition of text within images, more specifically on scanned documents, for that we use a powerful OCR technology called Tesseract. “Capture involves converting information from paper documents into an electronic format through scanning. Capture is also used to collect electronic files and information into a consistent structure for management. Capture technologies also encompass the creation of metadata (index values) that describe characteristics of a document for easy location through search technology.” – Source: Wikipedia –

A practical implementation for this feature, is invoices management, where there is a central location for receiving the invoices or bill statements, and a whole workflow procedure starts, from reception, capture, dispatch/assign to responsible area, to payment. All these without having to manipulate physical paper. Allowing to locate the correct invoice either by its metadata or by the recognized text within the scanned paper.

The Solution ≈ ECM InfoDigg™Recognition Technologies

Page 13: Infodigg presentacion alto nivel v3.0 eng

Another important feature of InfoDigg™ is with regard to RIM. If you read the formal definition, the one provided in Wikipedia, there is one thing one has to pay attention to, and is this:

"Section 4 of the ISO 15489-1:2001 states that records management includes:

• setting policies and standards;• assigning responsibilities and authorities;• establishing and promulgating procedures and guidelines;• providing a range of services relating to the management and use of records;• designing, implementing and administering specialized systems for managing records; • Integrating records management into business systems and processes.”

And we support all that, but the big difference is how all those things are getting done, in a single platform.

We allow the capture of any information the enterprise needs and provide out-of-the-box, the user interfaces generation, profile menu generation, validations, relations, restrictions, filters by profile, etc., anything needed to start working right away.

The Solution ≈ ECM InfoDigg™Records Information Management (RMI)

Page 14: Infodigg presentacion alto nivel v3.0 eng

No ECM platform will be complete without being ready for SOA, using underlying ESB and CMIS.

In InfoDigg™, we have merged one of our star products Nilus™ SCF, providing our platform with the power of SOA, based on a powerful Service Component Architecture (SCA).

One of the aims for any ECM platform is to act as a Enterprise Portal, where users interact to undertake their daily workloads. Let's imagine the following scenario:

• A Bank that has several systems, let's say for savings accounts, checks account, insurance accounts and more.

• How complex can become the creation of a customer that has all the portfolio provided by the bank?

• This is where SOA plays an important role, because without having a bus where all the services for those sub-systems are registered, this becomes an impossible task.

• Thus, the employee goes to the enterprise portal, enabled by InfoDigg™, and starts the process of creating a new customer.

• All the information required to gather the customer information is enabled by InfoDigg™ and user interfaces rendered, and all that information is collected and transmitted to all sub-systems exposed on the ESB.

• The employee, never come to know what happened beneath, and the Enterprise Portal, is the only source of information for the bank employees.

Page 15: Infodigg presentacion alto nivel v3.0 eng

To go 360 degrees, our platform wouldn’t be complete without having the ability to create mobile applications.

InfoDigg™ integrates a powerful tool to create mobile applications, using hybrid solutions for Android, iOS and Windows Phone operative systems.

Everything you model into InfoDigg on the web platform, gets rendered by the InfoDigg™ Mobile Renderer. Just to clarify, this is not a hidden web browser invoking remote resources on a server, this is a HTML5 rendering engine that gets synchronized with the server to learn what needs to be stored in the device and thus be able to render the content.

InfoDigg™ provides an API that enables the features required to create stunning mobile applications regardless of their nature. – Probably taking out games, which are different in nature.
