azul), sentimientos (feliz, triste, enojado), personalidad (amable, inteligente, agradable),

afirmativa:
Sujeto + verbo to be + as + adjetivo + as + complemento
Oaxaca is as nice as Guanajuato
Oaxaca es tan agradable como Guanajuato
She sings as well as Peter
Forma afirmativa Forma negativa Forma interrogativa
Guadalajara is as beautiful as Puebla. Guadalajara es tan Hermosa como Puebla.
Guadalajara is not as beautiful as Puebla. Guadalajara no es tan Hermosa como Puebla
Is Guadalajara as beautiful as Puebla? ¿Es Guadalajara tan Hermosa como Puebla?
Children eat as fast as adults.
Children don’t eat as fast as adults.
Do children eat as fast as adults?

Sujeto +verbo to be+ more + adjetivo + than+ complemento
Orizaba is more beautiful than Culiacan
Cholula is more ancient than Xalapa
Sujeto + verbo to be+ adjetivo + el sufijo -er + than + complemeto
Merida is nicer than Campeche
Veracruz is bigger than Villahermosa
Gotham city is uglier than Smallville
Good, better than
Bad, worse than
Far, further than
comparativa than.

Observa:
Si tiene una sílaba, le añadimos -est:
Small = the smallest
Popular = the most popular
Ugly =the ugliest

Comparing two cities: Xalapa and Veracruz
Xalapa and Veracruz are two cities I have lived in and
they tend to have some similarities based on the
people’s lifestyle and other economic factors. Although
both are large cities, Veracruz, with 247.9 km2, is bigger
than Xalapa, 124.4 km2; however, Veracruz is smaller
in population. The two cities also have a wide range of
tourist attractions, and that shows how they will have
multiple visitors that want to enjoy the different sites.
Hence, it will be more likely to find a large multitude of
people in the public spaces that will be finding a place to visit.
Veracruz has a professional soccer team that usually
plays on Friday night. It attracts to a huge number of
soccer fans since teams as popular as America,
Chivas, Cruz Azul or UNAM come to visit the local
team. Instead of this, Xalapa has some of the best
museums and art galleries in the state that also attract
many people that want to enjoy a cultural experience.
On the other hand, Veracruz is a more expensive city
to live in that Xalapa. In Veracruz you can find some of

the most beautiful malls of the state, with very prestigious stores on them. In
Xalapa you might also find fancy stores, but the prices are not as expensive as
Veracruz’s ones. But Xalapa is not just shopping. It has a lot of charming streets
and alleys you have to visit. In addition, Xalapa’s surrounds are beautiful too, for
example, Coatepec, Xico, Teocelo, San Marcos, etc. For instance, Veracruz has
more contemporary structures than Xalapa. In fact, Veracruz has the biggest
buildings in the state but, the same city also has great places to do recreational
activities. Hence, the city is more popular than Xalapa and one might benefit from
the various attraction centers in the region as well. In essence, Xalapa is as nice
as Veracruz, and they have various similar sceneries in order to have fun, but the
weather is a bit different in each city and one needs to consider that.
In conclusion, Xalapa and Veracruz have many differences despite having some
similarities one of the biggest cities within our state. The cities are attractive to
people owing their different features and characteristics. However, the attractions,
building styles, activities you can do and the weather spell how vastly different the
cities are.

I, you, he, she, it, we,
you, they).
cost / set / cut / hit / read.

Pecos Bill – A Legend of Frontier Spirit
Growing out of the imagination of southwestern cowboys
during America’s westward expansion, Pecos Bill personifies
the frontier virtues of courage, strength, and humor. The
mythical folk hero, first written about in 1917 by Edward
O’Reilly, is said to have been based on tales told by range
hands at the end of a long day of tending cattle and is in the
same spirit of other “Big” characters like Paul Bunyan or John
Henry. O’Reilly would publish these writings in the 1923 book
“Saga of Pecos Bill“.
Personifying the frontier spirit of the American West, the legendary “man” displayed
superhuman feats that grew with each telling as more writers would add their own
embellishments in later writings. Ol’ Bill even made it to the big screen in Disney movies,
including 1995’s “Tall Tale” with Patrick Swayze.
As the legend goes, born in the 1830s, Pecos Bill was the youngest of eighteen children
of a Texas pioneer and was so tough even as a baby, that he used a bowie knife as a
teething ring and made wild animals his playmates as a toddler. When the boy was very

Inglés II
young, he fell out of his parents’ wagon as they were crossing the Pecos River and was
swept away by the current. Rescued by coyotes, the boy was raised by the wild animals.
Years later when he was found by his brother, living with the
coyotes, his sibling had to convince him that he wasn’t a
coyote himself. When Bill returned to civilization he became
an excellent cowhand, credited with inventing the branding
iron, the lasso, cowboy songs to soothe the cattle, and many
other tips and tricks. He also appeared in other tales as a
railroad man, a buffalo hunter, and an oilfield worker.
But bigger than his work ethic and skills were the tales of
phenomenal feats such as riding a cyclone, roping an entire
herd at one time, using a rattlesnake as a whip, and harnessing the Rio Grande River to
water his ranch. He was so tough that he often rode a mountain lion rather than his
favorite horse, the Widow-Maker, whose favorite food was Dynamite.
Somewhere along the line, ole’ Pecos Bill met and courted a woman named Slue-Foot
Sue, who he found riding down the Rio Grande River on a catfish as large as a whale.
During their courtship, Pecos Bill did his legendary best to impress her by shooting out all
the stars from the sky except one, the Lone Star. He wins her over, but Slue-Foot insisted
on riding Widow Maker, who didn’t like the fact he had to compete with her for Bill’s
attention. Widow Maker bounces her so hard she keeps bouncing to the moon. Depends
on the story you’re reading as to whether Slue-Foot Sue ever stopped bouncing.
There are many more tall tales of Pecos Bill, including one version of his ultimate demise.
The story goes that as Bill was getting older, a man from Boston came down to New
Mexico for a visit. The Yankee thought himself a bit of a cowboy, so he gussied up in a
mail order suit that included lizard skin boots, a new pair of blue jeans, shiny brass belt
buckle and a clean as a whistle 10-gallon hat. When Pecos Bill saw the Yankee swagger
into a bar, ol’ Bill laid down on the sidewalk and laughed himself to death.

Verbos modales

Seven things mobile phones of the future will do
We are heading for the time of year when smartphone companies launch their “big”
phones – with the technologies that define the year ahead.
If you’re due for an upgrade, like Christmas: what will you be able to do with your shiny
new toy? From dual rear cameras to flexible screens, here are some of the technologies
that will change the way you use your phone this year.
1 Take better photos
The photos you take on your mobile phone could be about to undergo a revolution in
quality – with top smartphones adding a second camera on the rear. Adding a second
camera produces far sharper pictures, without adding extra bulk to the phone. “Stitching
together” two images vastly improve image quality.
Dual-camera handsets are far better at taking pictures in low light – and produce sharper
shots using zoom and wide-angle images. Because lenses allow in up to three times as
much light as previous phones.
2 Play clearer-sounding music
Some people choose a phone for its camera but others prize sound quality more highly.
There are now phones – such as the one by Marshall amps – to cater specifically for
audiophiles. The big sellers also score highly in sound-quality tests, and this year that
quality will get a boost as wireless Bluetooth headsets begin to take over from the
traditional sort that plugged into the stereo port.
Dirección General de Telebachillerato
48
Inglés II
Bluetooth headphones will offer a battery life up to 10 or 20 hours when streaming direct
– and they can also be used as a wireless headset to take calls. There is also a new
generation of wired headphones that will plug in via phones’ charging ports to offer louder
sounds and support for sharper “HD music” files, which current phones can’t match.
3 No more buttons
Next year, top smartphones are expected to ditch buttons that click “into” the phone in
favour of those that sit flush with the screen. When you press, you’ll still feel the click but
it will be “haptics”, generated by a vibration inside the phone. Haptics are already in use
in some of the latest phones. The technology makes smartphones more responsive, more
reliable and, perhaps most importantly, slimmer.
4 Always on
Samsung pioneered this feature and it’s an incredible time saver. Instead of powering
down completely when not in use, screens will switch off but leave a small panel
displaying information such as the time, missed calls, and text messages. As a result, you
won’t have to turn on your phone every time you just want to know what time it is.
While you might expect this function to reduce battery life, it’s barely noticeable. The hi-
tech AMOLED screen allows most of it to switch off entirely and burn a mere one per cent
of battery life per hour.
5 Enjoy virtual reality
Most of us are used to buying headphones to go with our new phone – but how about a
virtual reality headset? Much of the hype around virtual reality has revolved around
expensive systems such as the £500 Oculus Rift – but new smartphones will offer far
cheaper ways to enjoy VR.
A young woman uses a virtual reality headset with her smartphone
Looking to the future: will VR headsets become an in-box accessory?
Samsung’s new headset turns an ordinary smartphone into a control system for VR –
allowing wearers to speed down ski slopes, explore distant cities, and swim across the
sea bed. By slotting the Gear VR into a smartphone, you can look inside and around
videos such as estate-agent house tours. You control everything via a touch panel on the
side, with menu options floating in front of your eyes.

6 ‘Smartlets’ that fold in half
Forget phones, tablets and phablets, the next big thing could be “smartlets” – phones that
unfold into tablets.
Samsung is rumoured to be planning a wave of bendy-screened gadgets, according to
analyst reports, and it could be a “game changer” – with devices possibly going on sale
early in 2017. According to company sources speaking to Bloomberg earlier this year,
one such device is a 5in handset that “unfolds” into a larger 8in tablet. Another device
folds in half like a compact mirror.
7 Record in ultra HD
Ultra HD, or 4K, is a cinema-quality new standard in television technology that is only just
beginning to invade British living rooms – Sky is now showing films in 4K, offering four
times as much detail as full HD. What’s truly breathtaking is that phone users will be able
to enjoy the same screen resolution on something they can hold in the palm of their hands.
Sony pioneered the idea with its Xperia Z5 Ultra handset last year – and Samsung’s
Galaxy Note 7 will also sport a Quad HD screen. But it’s not just about seeing
blockbusters that are far sharper than on your TV screen – it also means that you can
shoot video in resolutions that won’t look grainy in 10 years’ time.

Modal verbs
Should obligación o recomendación El modal should se usa para consejos (deberías hacer esto, no
deberías hacer aquello) y también para probabilidad.
The train should arrive at 10.
We should clean all this mess before our guests arrive.
You should to turn all lights off when you leave.
The train should to be arriving soon.
Must Obligación, prohibición o necesidad
algo ocurra, equivale a deber.
All workers must follow the safety guidelines.

Inglés II
*Para recordarnos que debemos hacer algo:
I must phone my mother when I get home.
We must go out more often.
Ask Martha, she must know where the keys are.
Can Indica habilidad o posibilidad (significa “poder” en español).
I can play the trumpet.
We can take a taxi to the airport.
Mary can be very stubborn sometimes.
You can sit here if you like.
It may rain today.
We may stay here for the night.
Jack may be telling the truth.
You may ask three questions.
I may visit Susan on Monday.
Have Obligación
I must go home, I am terribly tired.

Inglés II
I have to stay at work until I finish my shift.
I have to wake up early tomorrow to go running.
negativa es preferible utilizar have to.
Ejemplos:
Do I have to stay until I finish the report?
Do I have to wear a uniform?
Do I really have to attend the meeting?
Do you have to speak so loud?
Do we always have to go to your place?
Do I always have to do the wash up?
demasiado formal o incluso anticuado.
