Wolf in sheeps clothing I dont want this anymore. You were asking if your lifewould have been better if youmarried Carlo. I wish I could say
yes but only God knows how itwould have been. Honestly ,there is no point thinking aboutthat. It would just make you bit-ter thinking that your life couldhave been better with Carlo.
April, you still love Paul in spiteof the pain that he causes you. Iadmire you for that . Sometimeswe just cant fathom the mystery oflove. I cannot tell you to stop beingwith Paul because he is your hus-band but what I can tell you is to
stop being a prisoner of fear. Youhave a daughter and if your hus-
band cannot be responsible for herthen you have to. It is your duty to
protect her from any harm, yourhusband included. If your love forhim dies, then it is something thathe has taken upon himself. It is not
your fault but his. I know it maynot seem to work sometimes butGod never gets tired of listening toour prayers. I honestly believe thatthere is no man so evil that Godcannot transform into a new andloving being. I wish there could be
an easy way out April but there isnone. Sometimes, you just have tolet God work his way into your lifeand trust him to take control of it.
I have always said time and againthat the ultimate test of love is inbeing able to love a person even ifwe cannot find any reason to any-more. Love for as long as you canand if it dies then just let it fadeaway. It may never end the way
you want it to but always remem-ber that it is better to lose lovewhile trying to keep it than lose itby not trying because you have giv-en up too soon.
Thank you April for writingand I hope that your heart will
finally find the p eace and happi-ness it deserves. God bless and Iwish you well.
DEAR Joe,I appreciate your program because your views are al-
ways in accordance with Christian values and I thankGod for providing me someone like you whom I mayconsult in these crumbling moments of my life.
My first love and I were notable to make it because thoughhe loved me, his love was notenough to fight for me. My fam-ily was well off in the past asmy Dad worked in one of themost prestigious companies inthe Middle East and he earnedquite big. My parents said that Ishould level up my standards in
choosing the one whom I shouldmarry. Unfortunately, Carlo wasonly in 2nd year college and hehad no intentions of finishinghis studies because he wantedto be a PBA athlete. He was a
varsity player in their university.I was compelled to end it
with Carlo despite my greatlove for him because my par-ents didnt approve of him. I
was sent to Davao to workthere and break the link be-tween Carlo and me.
While mending my brokenheart, a very persistent suitorcame into the picture. Paul dideverything to win me. Joe, I re-ally did not know what went in-to me that all I wanted thattime was to fight for the lovethat I thought was meant forme. He seemed to be the per-fect man for me.
It was too late when I real-ized that I jumped into a wellthat was full of lifetime suffer-
ing. I married a wolf dressed inlambs clothing. I have been anemotionally battered wife. Paulpreferred to be with his friendsand his selfishness began toshow after the birth of our onlydaughter. My husband did notexert any effort to find a job tosupport his growing family. Hecontinued to spend his marriedlife drinking.
Joe, I have prayed endlesslyand attempted countless times
to reform Paul. Both of us triedto engage in marriage and reli-gious encounters but they neversolved the problem.
He threatened me that if ev-er I would want to leave him,he would slash the neck of ourdaughter and kill himself too.Joe, he may be capable of doingthis so I just continue topainfully bear with him. I wantto leave him but how could I
when he is the one supposed to
leave? That would mean leav-
ing my own property. Hedoesnt want to leave too.
My Dad died a few yearsback and my Mom is now anailing diabetic. I am afraid to bealone, Joe. You have earliertackled in one of your episodesthat one should not live in ifsand if nots because fate cannever be questioned and thatthere is always a purpose foranything that the Lord brings tous. May I just be allowed toask? What if I married my firstlove, could my life be this mis-
erable or would it have beenbetter? I sincerely love Paul,Joe, but I do not think my love
would be enough to last a life-time. I just wish that divorce ispossible here in our country so Ican be free from this misery.
More power to you and toyour program.
Sincerely yours,April Rain
DEAR April,I have always been alarmed by
the number of married peoplewho , if given a choice wouldrather separate or divorce than
stick it out and figh t for theirmarriages. In many cases the
sweet e xchange of I dos eventual-ly becomes extreme desires to say

Tom Rodriguez: Hot newheartthrob in surprise hit
Tom is 25, 510 tall, darkand oh, those killer dimples (if
you get past those eyes)! As a rich and dapper yuppie,
married, with kids, and with agay lover, too, in GMA 7s sur-prise hit series, My Husbands
Lover, Tom seems like he canshow any girl, or boy for thatmatter, a whole new
worldshining, shimmering,splendid.
To think show biz nearly losthim to the US military! Butthats a long story, which he re-lates in this multiplatform inter-
view with INQUIRER in a jollymix of English and Filipino,Waray and Bisaya.
And thats another long story. When you signed up for the
role of Vincent, were youready?
I auditioned for it. I wasscared because of what I knewthe character would require. When we were told that [same-sex] kissing was prohibited onTV, I was relieved because, if itcame down to that, Id do it. I
was sur e that Dennis (Trillo),being a multiaward-winning ac-tor, would have no qualmsabout that, either.
We feel that youre taking abigger risk than Dennis, actu-ally. Hes won trophies forplaying a comfort gay in2004s Aishite Imasu 1941:
Mahal Kita.I didnt think of it that way.
Popoy (Caritativo, his manager)and I were stunned by peoplesreaction to the show. Popoymight have had this planned, but for me short range langang tingin ko e. I was happy tohave regular work and an un-
usual role that I could sink myteeth into.
Which part of the materialpulled you in immediately?
It was one scene that I readfor. That scene didnt make it tothe show, but I felt that it en-capsulated the story and ex-plained the characters very
well. Dennis was given the op-tion to choose between the tworoles; he picked the gay lover.
I remember my conversationwith Popoy: Tom, theres anaudition at GMA 7, are you upto it? I said yes, and asked
what time. He said, I haventtold you about the role. You willplay Carlas husband I said,Thats good; I havent worked
with her. He continued,
and Dennis lover. I couldntsee myself but I knew I wasflushed! I asked Popoy, Are yousure? Baguhan lang ako; Im notsure I can pull that off.
Had you been allowed tochoose, which role would youhave taken?
Id still pick the husband. Be-fore Vincent, I hadnt comeacross a role so different from
who I was, and so out of thebox, that I had to unlearn ev-
erything I knew about acting uptill that point. And I have [poured my
whole self] into the role. Beforewe shoot any scene for MHL, Iwill have imagined every aspectof ithow it would look, feel, smell for Vincent. You see verylittle of Tom there. I am con-stantly thinking why Vincentdoes what he does.
For me, it all boils down toVincent needing love and, espe-cially, wanting his fathers ap-
proval. Though hes gay, you seealmost nothing of that softness
because hes trained to beguarded, since his dad is a mili-tary man.
Do you agree with all ofVincents choices?
I may not, but I try not tojudge him. People, even thosewho do horrible things, thinktheyre doing the right thing.Sometimes you need to see theprice that a person pays for hisdecisions. Nothing good cameout of Vincents wrong choices, like his marrying Lally, just to
win his fathers approval.Arent you afraid of being
typecast?Theres always that fear. At
the same time, it makes mehappy not many actors get tohave a successful pairing with alesbian character, as I did in BeCareful With My Heart (ABS-CBN, with Aiza Seguerra) andnow, with a gay male character.
I have a new project with Vi-va Films, but I havent seen the
script. I dont know if the pro-
ducers of the movie version ofBe Careful will cast me in it. I
love everyone I worked with onthat show. Im still in touch withthem, especially Aiza and direc-tor Jeffrey Jeturian.
What have you learnedplaying Vincent so far?
Many things, the most im-portant of which are acceptanceand empathy. In the way thathe loves Vincent is really no dif-ferent from a heterosexual orhomosexual man, or any of us.We all seek affection in thesame way.
I say empathy because beingVincent just a few hours a dayis exhausting and suffocating. Its never good to have to lie to
yourself. I hope viewers see thepain that he goes through.
Some men of the cloth cer-tainly dont. How did you feelabout that?
Everyone is entitled to anopinion. Thats the beauty ofdemocracy. We just have tomake sure, even if we disagree,
that we dont lose respect for
each other.You had familiarity work-
shops with Dennis and Carla. How did those go?We had to; otherwise it
would be hard to do intimatescenes. We had to go past thephysical awkwardness, if we
were to effectively tell the story.Could you see yourself as
something elselike, maybean action star?
Yes, that would be good, too.Im into martial arts, boxing, and a few other sports. I played
American football throughouthigh school.
Before that, growing up inCatbalogan, Samar, I watchedall the films of Fernando PoeJr., Robin Padilla, Lito Lapidand Dante Varona, who jumpedfrom the San Juanico Bridge inone of his films. Whenever wecrossed that bridge, I remem-ber I asked myself, Can I dothat? Who knew I was goingto be in the movies! My dream
was to be a visual artist, a
painter.

IN A RECENT study, high-school kids have claimedthat they are bored, not knowing what to do beyondusing their phones and computers. Is this something
you deal with? How do you handle it? Is there anythingyou do to keep your teenagers from getting bored?
My son always seems sobored at home especially nowthat school has started and hesnot allowed to play PS3 or on-line games. It does seem liketheir life revolves around theirphones/computers/tablets/gam-ing consoles! This school year
we forced him to ride theschool bus so hed meet newfriends from school who live inthe subdivision, so hell have atropa (good tropa, we hope).
