THOSE(ESOS, ESAS, AQUELLOS, AQUELLAS)

Pronombres Interrogativos / Interrogative Pronouns

WHEN...?: ¿Cuándo?WHOSE...? ¿De quién...? HOW MUCH...? ¿Cuánto/a...? WHY...? ¿Por qué...?WHOM...? ¿A quién...? HOW MANY...? ¿Cuántos/as...?
HOW LONG...? ¿Cuánto tiempo...?
Plurales / Plurals
lady >ladies party >parties body > bodies

Unidad 1.- English Grammar
Presente Simple/ Present Continuous
I have lunch at 2 o’clock (como a las 2 en punto).Does she get up very early? (¿ella se levanta muy temprano?).We don’t know where she lives (nosotros no sabemos dónde vive ella).

I don’t playYou don’t playHe doesn’t playShe doesn’t playIt doesn’t playWe don’t playYou don’t playThey don’t play
Look, it’s raining! ¡Mira, llueve!
She is coming on Tuesday.

La forma afirmativa contraída sería: I’m playing, you’re playing, he’s playing, she’splaying, it’s playing, we’re playing, you’re playing, they’re playing.
I’m not playing, you’re not playing / you aren’t playing, he’snot playing / he isn’t playing, she’s not playing / she isn’t playing, it’s not playing / itisn’t playing, we’re not playing / we aren’t playing, you’re not playing / you aren’tplaying, they’re not playing / they aren’t playing.
¿Present Simple o Present Continuous?
-What do you do before sleeping?
-What are you doing? (¿Qué haces / Qué estás haciendo? –ahora-)-I’m reading a book (Leo / Estoy leyendo un libro –ahora-)
Compara los ejemplos:-It rains a lot in Britain (habitual) / It’s raining a lot (ahora)-I usually play tennis (habitual), but today I’m playing golf (ahora)

I have worked as a waiter – He trabajado de camarero (es algo que hice en elpasado, y no indico cuándo).
She has visited Africa – Ella ha visitado África.
I worked as a waiter last summer – Trabajé de camarero el pasado verano. She visited Africa several years ago – Ella visitó África hace varios años.
Paul: Have you ever driven a Porsche? - ¿Has conducido alguna vez unPorsche?Mary: Yes I did. I drove a Porsche two weeks ago.

JUST, ALREADY, YET
They have just come – Acaban de venirThe film has just finished – La película acaba de terminar

I have already read this book – Ya he leído este libroYou have already been here before – Ya has estado antes aquí
Have you finished yet? – ¿Has terminado ya?I haven’t started yet. – No he empezado aún / todavía.

To Have and Have got
Este verbo significa “tener”. Podemos elegir cuando usar to have y have got puesto quesignifican lo mismo:
I have a new car = I’ve got a new car
Have you a big house? (menos habitual) = Have you got a big house? = Do youhave a big house?Has she a pet? (menos habitual) = Has she got a pet? = Does she have a pet?
They haven’t any money (menos habitual) = They haven’t got any money =They don’t have any moneyShe hasn’t a laptop (menos habitual) = She hasn’t got a laptop = She doesn’thave a laptop
Cuando el verbo have indique posesión, podemos elegir qué forma usar (int / neg):
Do you have a bike? = Have you got a bike? = Have you a bike?
Do you have breakfast everyday? (to have breakfast: desayunar)She doesn’t have to work at the weekend (to have to: tener que – de obligación)
Al indicar posesión, no se podrá poner el have usando formas continuas (I am having...)
I have a good smartphone
She had a boat / Did she have a boat? / She didn’t have a boat
Used to
I used to play football on the beach when I was a kid (Solía jugar al fútbol en laplaya cuando era un niño)

Unidad 6.- English Grammar
The Future; Present Simple / Present Continuous; will and going to;Future Perfect and Future Continuous
The Future
The plane takes off at 7.00 – El avión despega/despegará a las 7.00
The bus arrives at noon – El autobús llega/llegará a mediodía
a) What are you doing on Sunday Morning?b) I’m going to the Port
a) What are you going to do on Sunday morning?b) I’m going to go to the Port

Look, it’s going to rain! - ¡Mira, va a llover! (puedo ver nubes negrasacercándose...)
Así trabajamos con la forma be going to:
To play
Afirmativa Interrogativa Negativa
Sujeto + verbo to been present simple +
verbo “go” engerundio + verbo eninfinitivo (con “to”)
Verbo to be enpresent simple+

We will not playYou will not playThey will not play
I won’t playYou won’t playHe won’t playShe won’t playIt won’t play
We won’t playYou won’t playThey won’t play
Su contracción afirmativa es‘ll : I’ll go with you – Iré contigo.
Shall I...?: Nos ofrecemos a hacer algo por alguien
Shall I help you with your bags? – ¿Le ayudo con las bolsas?
Shall I open the window? - ¿Abro la ventana?
Shall we...?: Así podemos hacer sugerencias (¿qué tal si...?, ¿qué os parece si...?)
Shall we go to the cinema? – ¿Qué tal si vamos al cine?
Shall we dance? - ¿Bailamos?

Usos del will:
a) Today is Jane’s birthday – Hoy es el cumpleaños de Janeb) Is it? I’ll buy her a present - ¿Ah, sí? Le compraré un regalo
Waiter.- What would you like to have, sir? - ¿Qué desea tomar, señor?Customer.- I’ll have a steak, please – Tomaré un filete, por favor
Para hacer promesas:
Dad, I won’t drive fast! – ¡Papá, no conduciré deprisa!
I’ll stay at home and study – Me quedaré en casa y estudiaré
Liverpool will win the Premier League this season – Liverpool ganará laPremier League esta temporada
Future PerfectSe forma así: will have + participio pasadoAfirmativa: She will have played / interrogativa: Will she have played? / negativa: shewill not have played
I´ll have finished my homework by Sunday – Habré terminado mis deberes parael domingo
She’ll have returned in two days – Ella habrá vuelto en dos días.
Future ContinuousSu forma es: will be + verbo en gerundioAfirmativa: They will be playing / interrogativa: Will they be playing? / negativa: Theywill not be playing
Don’t come at 10.00. We´ll be running – No vengas a las diez. Estaremoscorriendo
What will you be doing this time next year?

Conditional sentences (0, I, II, and III); I Wish
Las oraciones condicionales y sus tipos
Tipo 0:
If you don’t water the plants, they die – Si no riegas las plantas, se mueren
If I buy chocolate, they eat it – Si compro chocolate, se lo comen
You get fit if you do sport – Te pones en forma si haces deporte
Tipo I:
Son más corrientes que las anteriores. Expresan algo probable. Su estructura puedeseguir dos formas:
If + frase en presente simple, frase en futuro (normalmente con “will”)
If you study, you will pass – Si estudias, aprobarás
We will go to the cinema if she comes – Iremos al cine si ella viene
If + frase en presente simple, frase en imperativo
If you are hungry, have a sandwich – Si tienes hambre, cómete un bocadillo
Go to bed if you are tired – Acuéstate si estás cansado
Tipo II:

If you studied, you would pass – Si estudiaras (o estudiases), aprobarías
I would travel around the world if I won a lotto – Viajaría por el mundo siganara (o ganase) una loto
Cuando trabajemos con el verbo “to be”, se prefiere usar “were” para todas las personas, aunque cada día se admite más el uso de “was”.
If I were you, I would not go – Si yo fuera (o fuese) tú, no iría
We would go to the pub if he were here – Iríamos al pub si él estuviera (oestuviese) aquí
Tipo III:
If + frase con past perfect, frase con would have + participio pasado
If you had studied, you would have passed – Si hubieras (o hubieses) estudiado, habrías aprobado
I would have gone to her party if she had told me – Yo habría ido a su fiesta siella me lo hubiera (o hubiese) dicho
I will go to London whether you like or not – Iré a Londres te guste o no
Unless you work harder, you will be fired – A menos que trabajes más duro, serás despedido
She will take an umbrella in case it rains – Ella cogerá un paraguas por si llueve

I wish:
Tengo poco dinero, así que digo: I wish I had more money (ojalá tuviera másdinero)
Mi coche es viejo: I wish I had a new car (ojalá tuviera un coche nuevo)
Rompí tus fotos: I wish I hadn’t broken your photos (ojalá no hubiera roto tusfotos)
Mi novia fuma: I wish my girlfriend wouldn’t smoke (ojalá mi novia no fume /fumara)
Cuando los sujetos coincidan hay que usar “could” en vez de “would”:
I wish I could swim like a fish (ojalá pudiera / pueda nadar como un pez)

Unidad 8.- English Grammar
Modal verbs
Verbos Modales
- ¿puedes venir?; you shouldn’t go – Nodeberías ir); y nunca pueden ir dos modales seguidos (you must can do it – ¡no existe!“Debes poder hacerlo” se indicaría así: you must be able to do it).
Can, could, be able to, may y might
I can drive – Sé conducir; She can swim – Ella sabe nadar
Can I come in? - ¿Puedo entrar?; Yes, you can – Sí
Dad, can I go with you? - Papá, ¿puedo ir contigo? No, you can’t. You haven’t finished your homework – No. No hasterminado tus deberes.
Can I see the doctor? ¿Puedo ver al doctor? No, you can’t (he is not in the city) – No (no está en la ciudad, esimposible que lo veas)
Could
Su forma negativa es could not =couldn’t
I could swim when I was four – Sabía nadar cuando tenía cuatro años
Making mistakes you also learn!
Inglés
She could play the violin when she was little – Ella sabía tocar el violíncuando era pequeña
Podemos expresar una posibilidad:
The keys could be on the kitchen table – Las llaves podrían estar sobre lamesa de la cocina
Could I come in? - ¿Podría pasar? (¿da usted su permiso?)
To be able to
Si quiero decir podré ir lo haré con el to be able to en futuro – I will be able to go
he podido ir – I have been able to go
To be able to significa lo mismo que can (poder, ser capaz de) y cubre todos lostiempos y los vacíos que deja el can sin llenar:
I can do it = I am able to do it = puedo hacerlo / soy capaz de hacerloI could do it = I was able to do it = pude hacerlo / fui capaz de hacerloI could do it = I would be able to do it = podría hacerlo / sería capaz de hacerlo
X = I will be a ble to do it = podré hacerlo / seré capaz de hacerloX = I have been able to do it = he podido hacerlo / he sido capaz de hacerloX = I had been able to do it = había podido hacerlo / había sido capaz de hacerlo
May y Might
She could be American = She may be American = She might be American =Ella puede / podría ser Americana
Con may y might también podemos pedir y dar permiso de manera formal:
May I come in? / Could I come in? = ¿Puedo / podría pasar? (¿Da usted supermiso?)Yes, you may = Sí
Making mistakes you also learn!
Inglés
Might I come in? = ¿Podría pasar? (¿Da usted su permiso?)Yes, you might = Sí
Sus formas negativas son may not y might not (las contraídas no suelen usarse mucho).
Must, to Have to, Mustn’t, Don’t have to, Needn’t, Should
Su forma negativa es must not /mustn’t.
I must pay taxes = I have to pay taxes = Debo/tengo que pagar impuestos
X = Did she have to do her homework? = ¿Debía/tenía ella quehacer sus deberes?
X = You will have to go alone = Deberás/tendrás que ir solo
Existe un pequeño matiz para diferenciar must y have to:Si la obligación es interna (me la impongo yo) usaré must:I must phone my parents / Debo telefonear a mis padres (lo considero necesario)
Si la obligación es externa (me la imponen) debo usar to have to:I have to wear a uniform (I am a soldier) / Tengo que llevar uniforme (soysoldado)
Mustn’t indica prohibición, que no debe hacerse algo:
You mustn’t smoke in hospitals / Está prohibido fumar en los hospitales
You mustn’t drink alcohol and drive / Está prohibido beber alcohol y conducir
Don’t have to se usa para expresar que no hay obligación / necesidad de hacer algo:
You don’t have to pay: the concert is free / No tienes que pagar: el concierto esgratis
We don’t have to work at weekends / No tenemos que trabajar los fines desemana
Needn’t significa lo mismo que don’t have to, y pueden intercambiarse sin problema:
She needn’t come if she doesn’t want to = She doesn’t have to come if shedoesn’t want to = Ella no tiene que venir si no quiere

Should
Should es el condicional de must y se traduce por “debería”. Su forma negativa esshould not / shouldn’t. Se utiliza para dar consejos / expresar opiniones:
You should go to the doctor – Deberías ir al médico

Should puede intercambiarse por ought to:
You should do more sport = You ought to do more sport = Deberías hacer másdeporte

Unidad 9.- English Grammar
The Passive
The Passive
She eats sandwichesS V CD
Ella come bocadillos
Sandwiches are eaten (by her)SP V to Be (present) V en participio CA

They gave me a lot of moneyS V CI CD
I was given a lot of money (by them) = A lot of money was given to me (by them)Se me dio mucho dinero = Mucho dinero se me dio / me fue dado
Igual ocurre con frases que empiezan con it is said, he is said to y he is supposed to
It is said that he is a bad person – Se dice que es una mala persona
He is said to have robbed a bank – Se dice que él ha atracado un banco
She is supposed to have finished her studies – Se supone que ella ha terminadosus estudios

Relative Sentences
Relative Sentences
She is the girl who worked with me at the office.
Podremos elegir usar como conector relativo a who y that para personas:This is the man who has lent me the money. This is the man that has lent me the money.
Para animales y cosas usaremos como conector bien a which o a that:That is the cat which was rescued by the firefighters. That is the cat that was rescued by the firefighters.
Para lugares utilizaremos el conector where:That is the hospital where I was born.
That is the neighbour whose dog bit me the other day.
She is the woman (who / that) I met at my golf classes. That is the lamp (which / that) you broke.

This song, which sold many copies, was composed by Bono.
Mark, who is my age, is my best friend. Last Wednesday I met my brother, who lives in Murcia.
Tarragona, where I grew up, is a friendly city.Tarragona, donde crecí, es una ciudad amistosa.
A diferencia de las oraciones defining, that nunca podrá substituir a who ni a which(that nunca podrá en una frase entre comas).

Reported Speech (Estilo indirecto)
Reported Speech (Estilo Indirecto)
He said: “my father writes novels” - Él dijo: “ mi padre escribe novelas”
He said that his father wrote novels - Él dijo que su padre escribía novelas
Estilo Directo Estilo indirecto
Present Simple Past Simple
He said: “I like apples” He said that he liked apples
Present Continuous Past Continuous
She told me: “it is raining” She told me that it was raining
Past Simple Past Perfect
They said: “we came to London” They said that they came/had come to London

Present Perfect Past Perfect

Future Simple Conditional Simple
I said: “I will go” I said that I would go
Dije: “iré” Dije que iría
Hay que fijarse en los verbos modales:
She told me: “ I can swim” She told me that she could swim
Ella me dijo: “Sé nadar” Ella me dijo que sabía nadar
He said: “I may go” He said that he might go
Él dijo: “puedo ir” Él dijo que podría ir
You told me: “I must go” You told me that you had to go
Estilo Directo Estilo Indirecto
This That
These Those
Now Then
Yesterday The day before; the previous day
Today That day
Tomorrow The day after; the following day

She told me: “work” - She told me to workElla me dijo: “trabaja” - Ella me dijo que trabajara
They told us: “don’t speak” - They told us not to speakEllos nos dijeron: “no hableis” - Ellos nos dijeron que no habláramos
He asked me: “where does she live?” Él me preguntó: “¿dónde vive ella?”He asked me where she lived Él me preguntó dónde vivía ella
She asked me: “Do you know where is the bank?”Ella me preguntó:”Sabe usted dónde está el banco?”
She asked me if I knew where the bank wasElla me preguntó si yo sabía dónde estaba el banco
Say y Tell
Estos verbos (to say: decir; to tell: decir, contar) tienen un significado prácticamenteidéntico.
El verbo to say se usa cuando alguien dice algo:She said: “hello” - Ella dijo: “hola”
To tell se utiliza cuando alguien dice algo a alguien:She told me: “hello” - Ella me dijo: “hola”
También tenemos la posibilidad de usar el to say para decirle algo a alguienañadiendo to:She said to me: “hello” - Ella me dijo: “hola”
