It felt like Machovec when the girls took the floor and throughout the warm ups the O’s were looking strong. Their opponent was the Sidney Cowgirls, a 32-1 team from the West Central part of the state. Springville worked the nerves out early in the first set, falling behind 7-2. They rallied back to e it at 13 before Sidney went on a run and took a 20-16 lead. The O’s came within one at 23-22 but that was the closest they’d get before falling 25-22. The second set started similar to the first, Springville fell behind early and then started to slowly come back, cung it to 11-8, then falling back, 17-10 before rallying to a 22-21 deficit. Again that was the closest they’d get and dropped the second set by the same score as the first, 25-22. In the third and decisive set the girls stayed within striking distance unl about midway through. Down 14-10, the Cowgirls started to pull away and win the match with a 25-17 third set score. The O’s were led this night, like all others, by Senior Megan Wagaman with 9 kills and 16 digs. Junior seer Olivia Dlouhy had 17 assists, while sophomore Madi Wagaman added another 11 assists and sophomore Mikayla Nachazel added 7 kills to the stat column. While it clearly wasn’t the team’s strongest performance, they played all out and made Sidney earn each point. Over 100 teams start their season in the month of August and only 8 finish at the State Tournament. Springville once again has ended an athlec season on the biggest plaorm possible. Congratulaons to the players, families and coaches for another wonderful year of highlights, accomplishments and triumphs. Megan Wagaman is to the leſt, going up for a kill. ORIOLE VOLLEYBALL SEASON ENDS AT STATE TOURNAMENT

Although their season finished a little sooner than they like, the Springville Volleyball team wrapped up the 2015 campaign at the state tournament last Wednesday in front of family, friends and supporters decked out in white. It felt like Machovec when the girls took the floor and throughout the warm ups the O’s were looking strong. Their opponent was the Sidney Cowgirls, a 32-1 team from the West Central part of the state. Springville worked the nerves out early in the first set, falling behind 7-2. They rallied back to tie it at 13 before Sidney went on a run and took a 20-16 lead. The O’s came within one at 23-22 but that was the closest they’d get before falling 25-22. The second set started similar to the first, Springville fell behind early and then started to slowly come back, cutting it to 11-8, then falling back, 17-10 before rallying to a 22-21 deficit. Again that was the closest they’d get and dropped the second set by the same score

as the first, 25-22. In the third and decisive set the girls stayed within striking distance until about midway through. CRAZY MASCOT OF THE WEEK… There’s some pretty wild mascots out there and this week we look at Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Located on the southern tip of the state, the town aptly named lies right at the entrance to the Mississippi Sound. Within the boundaries of this town of 11,000 people, is Saint Stanislaus High School. They compete in the usual sports but also have power lifting, swimming and sailing. Their colors are red and black and their mascot? The Rock-A-Chaw! In the early days of the football team, their field was covered with sticky, sand burrs which helped Brother Pierce come up with their nick name. Rock-A-Chaw is the Choctow term for devil grass and the name has “stuck” with them over the years.

WEEKLY PICKS CONTEST… TCU vs Oklahoma Baylor vs Oklahoma State Northwestern vs Wisconsin Packers vs Vikings Make your picks and for the tie-breaker, how many completions will Iowa QB CJ Beathard throw against Purdue? This week’s winner is Cavanaugh Riley, he was a perfect 4 for 4 on his picks. Thanks for playing and have a great week.

CELEBRATING OUR STATE QUALIFERS...

The proud community gathered last Sunday to pay tribute to the athletes that finished their season competing for a state championship. Players and coaches in turn thanked the fans for such support during another successful fall athletic season. Junior Sam Lorimer who continues to impress the running world was congratulated for his state cross

country appearance in early November. Sam finished the race in a time of 17:31.1, earning him a 32nd place finish among the states top 2A runners. The volleyball team, fresh off a state tournament appearance, were on hand as well. Finishing their season in front of the Oriole Nation at the Cellular Center was certainly what they competed for all year. The ceremony included words from players, coaches and fans and has become a newer tradition that will no doubt continue as Oriole athletic teams play further and further in the post season. It really is a great day to be an Oriole! Sam Lorimer and Coach Pershing are pictured to the left and above are your State

Volleyball Quarterfinalists. (Photos provided by Rich Lorimer)
