The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

Today, we are careful never to come into contact with blood unless protected by gloves, masks, and goggles.

In the reading from Exodus, however, Moses dramatically splashes blood all over the altar and the

people assembled for worship. Blood is the sign of God's covenant with the Israelites, a powerful bond between Creator and creature. Sprinkling blood on

God's people connects them with the life force of the Lord. The reading from Hebrews shows how God remains faithful to the ancient covenant of blood,

perfecting it in the bloody death of Jesus. Mercifully, Jesus' sacrifice on the cross put an end to the

bloodshed. Our Eucharistic celebration is an unbloody sacrifice. As we participate in the liturgy, we share in

the new covenant Jesus gives us, recorded in our reading from Mark's Gospel: "Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it."

JMJ June 3, 2018

My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. A Blessed Feast of Corpus Christi! Last night we celebrated our Parish Volunteers who out of the goodness of their hearts practice the spirit stewardship and discipleship by being fully engaged in the different ministries and pastoral services we offer as a Parish Community. We are “Grateful and Blessed” this is the spirit in which we planned, organized and enjoyed the dinner-fellowship in the western themed event. We are Grateful because there continuously is a stream of people who wish to give more to their parish family. They respond to the call they heard, listened and responded in their hearts and spirits. In other times, they say yes to the invitation of a fellow parishioner or the priests who is led by the Spirit to recognize the Charism they manifest. How many of us can recall vividly that particular instance when we began our service to our parish community. We are Blessed because they bring with them the gifts of the Holy Spirit in their service to our pastoral ministries. They search within their lives what talents and treasures they can enhance and enrich through the practice of diligent and loving stewardship. In the Christian perspective, everything we share is purified by the grace of God. The Holy Spirit takes what we offer and translate it into a blessing for others who are in need of it. People who come and visit our parish whether because they are attending an event or sometimes just passing by as tourist leave with the impression of seeing the welcoming spirit, vibrancy and fellowship that is present. Our cooperation with the grace of the Spirit makes this possible. Our volunteers in their gift of self make it real and tangible for other to see. For this we are very thankful – you all are unique gifts that make our parish stand out. This is what being a Christian means. To stand out and be noticed so people can exclaim: “see how they love one another.” These coming months we shall witness a prolific display of willingness to render a gift to our parish from Senior Boy Scouts who elect to do an Eagle Scout Project that will benefit us. To these dedicated young men

who are our future leaders we also say thank you. We are a living, breathing and growing parish family and that is why we are constantly sounding the call for participation in our Ministries and Pastoral events. We have the Camino, Backyard Theology and VBS coming in succession in the next few weeks and month – we need your help. There is also the constant demands of our parish liturgical events and our homebound parish members who need the loving and caring presence of ministers. We hope and pray for your affirmative response. We all are parts of the Mystical Body of Christ may we resonate to the stirring call of the Holy Spirit and be not afraid to say like the holy people of old: “Here I am Lord, I come to do Your Will.” God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr.

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

THANK YOU HECTOR & CINDY GUZMAN

For over 10 years, Hector and Cindy Guzman have been a part of the Hospitality Ministry here at Santiago. The Lord is now calling them into a different path in their personal and spiritual lives. Their last day serving the 12:30pm Mass will be Sunday, June 3rd.

Their calling to the ministry began during Hector’s Knights of Columbus meeting one night when he heard there were ushers needed

during the 12:30pm Mass. As they became more involved in this ministry, they noticed the lack of members and was looking for ways to invite the congregation to be a part of this ministry. With the Lord’s help, he was able to recruit more members. In 2014, Hector was invited to become Usher/Hospitality Ministry Leader, before Fr. Thomas came to Santiago. Once Fr. Thomas arrived, great changes happened beginning with the name change to “Hospitality Ministry”. He knew it was a harder name to live up to than an usher, it became more of a challenge, and made him realize he would have to be more active since he was a leader.

Some of the Santiago memories they will take with them is time Fr. Thomas celebrated midnight Mass and the star of Bethlehem was lit up, being able to see children receive First Holy Communion and teenagers as well as adults receive their Confirmation, the transformation of our music ministry, Fr. Thomas songs after the homily, and finally all the good people of Santiago de Compostela.

You have been a blessing to Santiago de Compostela. We wish you the best in this new journey the Lord has guided you to take. You will be in our prayers!

DIOCESAN PRIESTS ON RETREAT June 4th-8th

Each year the diocesan

priests gather with the bishop for a week long retreat and

conference. We will still have Daily Mass at 8am. Please

keep the priests in your prayers.

“Gracious and loving God, we thank you for the gift of our priests. Through them, we experience your presence in the sacraments. Help our priests to be strong in their vocation. Set their souls on fire with love for your people. Help them to become instruments of your divine grace.” AMEN.

Are you a Poet? Do you enjoy writing? If you would like to join a few other “would-be” scribes, this is your chance. With our focus on putting into verse our inner poetry and prayers, our group will meet

on the first Thursday (June 7th) each month at 7:00pm in the Parish Hall. The only requirements are that you enjoy writing, especially in verse (beginners are welcome), you are willing to share your work and you welcome charitable feedback. To express interest, contact:
