UNIDAD DOCENTE – CENTRO PENITENCIARIO LAS PALMAS I

Un total de 17 internos fueron autorizados para realizar una salida al entorno, practicar el senderismo y conocer nuestra isla.

Con esta actividad pretendemos que se reconozca y se valore lo cercano no globalizado sino particular, incluyendo los alimentos y productos tradicionales.

WorKSHoP: HiKing and enVironment

A total of 17 inmates were authorized to participate in an excursion to practice hiking and to get to know our island.With this activity we intend that they value their close roots, including local and traditional products and food.

Recorrido por Cueva Grande y Camaretas(Municipio: Vega de San Mateo)

Este municipio está situado en las medianías del centro norte de la isla de Gran Canaria.

El color verde domina de forma casi permanente en sus valles y laderas, donde se cultivan hortalizas, papas y diversos frutales. También ha destacado por su producción de quesos e incluso vinos.

La agricultura y la ganadería han sido sus pilares económicos tradicionales. En la actualidad el 60% de la población ocupada lo hace en el sector servicios (comercio, hostelería, educación…)

This village is situated in the North-Centre of the Island of Gran Canaria. The green colour is almost permanent in its valleys and mountains, where potatoes, vegetables and different fruits are planted. It is also important the production of cheese and wine in this area.

The agriculture and the livestock have been traditionaly the main source of economy. At present, 60% of the active working population are in the service sector (marketing, hospitality sector, education…)

PRODUCTOS LOCALES: Se trata de salvaguardar los alimentos, las materias primas, las técnicas de cultivo y de transformación heredadas por los usos locales consolidados en el tiempo.

LOCAL PRODUCTS:The main purpose is to mantain the food, first materials, the cultivation and transformation techniques tought by past generations along time.

Ventajas de los productos locales Es muy importante que productores y consumidores estén lo más cerca posible, en un radio de acción de 100 kilómetros como máximo.El transporte a larga distancia de productos supone un impacto ambiental en forma de contaminación, emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero implicados en el cambio climático, generación de residuos por la necesidad de un mayor embalaje.Los productos alimenticios recién extraídos, como frutas o verduras, tienen más propiedades y un mejor sabor y olor, al estar frescos.Se mantiene y refuerza la economía local, en especial los pequeños y medianos productores.

Advantages of local productsIt´s very important that producers and comsumers are as close as possible; in a radio of 100 kilometres maximum. The long distance transport of products produces an enviromental impact as contamination, the gas emisions, with a greenhouse effect which affects the changing of the climate, and the remains produced after packing.The food products just picked, such as fruits and vegetables, have more nutrients and a better taste and smell as they are fresh. The local economy is kept and reinforced, specially that of small and medium producers.

Frente a los productos que viajan miles de kilómetros hasta llegar al consumidor, los productos de "kilómetro cero", también conocidos como de "proximidad" o de "cadena corta", se elaboran y comercializan de forma local.

In comparison with products that travel ghousand of kilometres until the reach the comsumer, products called “zero kilometer”, and also called “close products”of “slow chain” are elaborated and comercialized localy.

Gracias a estos alimentos, productores y consumidores están lo más cerca posible, en un radio de acción de 100 kilómetros como máximo. El movimiento Slow Food, iniciado por el italiano Carlo Petrini en 1986, ha sido el impulsor de esta idea.

Thanks to this food, producers and comsumers are closer, in a radio of 100 kilometer maximum. The movement “Slow Food” promoted by the italian Carlo Petrini in 1986, has been the impulsor of this idea.

La supervivencia de pequeños agricultores, de minifundios y de técnicas que no se miden en la eficacia depende de que el mercado valore su presencia.The survival of the small agricultures, small areas of Land and techniques that are not measured by eficiency, depends on the value that the market give to them.

Cultivos tradicionales en Camaretas (San Mateo)

Los productos locales son más frescos y cercanos a los consumidores, a la vez que la huella ecológica se reduce.The local products are more fresh and closer to the comsumers, at the same time the ecological fingerprints gets reduced.

Con este tipo de actividades mostramos que puede tomarse la vida con un poco más de calma, para recorrer con tiempo el paisaje rural y disfrutar de él, reconociendo los valores de la ganadería y agricultura tradicional.

With this type of activities we show them that life can be taken calmly, in order to take time to walk around this natural path and enjoy it, aknowling the values of traditional techniques and agriculture.

En el municipio de San Mateo se cuenta con un Mercado Agrícola que funciona sábados y domingos, donde se pueden encontrar estos productos de proximidad.

There is an Open-Market in the village of San Mateo which is openned on Saturdays and Sundays where you can find all these products.
