Pattern Notes Join rnds with a sl st unless otherwise stated. Pattern Stitches Surface ch: With crochet hook, make a sl knot at end of 2-strand length of embroidery floss. Remove sl knot from hook. Holding sl knot on WS of work, insert hook from RS to WS at point where embroidery will beg, pick up lp, draw through to RS of work. *Insert hook from RS to WS at next point on work, draw up a lp with embroi-dery floss from WS to RS of work and through lp on hook, rep from * as necessary along outline, ending with draw up entire length of floss to RS of work and through lp on hook; holding hook at WS of work, insert hook from WS of work to RS at end of last ch made, draw entire length of floss through to WS, tie securely. Dropped lp join (dlj): Remove hook from lp, insert hook from RS to WS in indicated st or sp, pick up dropped lp, draw through st or sp to RS of work. Cl: Holding back on hook last lp of each st, 3 tr in indicated st, yo, draw through all 4 lps on hook. Doily Center Following manufacturer's instructions, iron butterfly transfer pattern onto center of linen cloth or apply pattern to center of cloth using dressmaker's carbon and ballpoint pen or pencil. Insert linen cloth into embroidery hoop. Using photo as a guide, outline pattern with surface chain using smaller crochet hook and 2 strands of embroidery floss. With embroidery needle, embroider French knots on butterfly's wings. Cut away excess linen to within 1/8 inch from edge of hemstitching.
