What does it take to be successful?

As a first generation, low-income student, Erasmo worked 30 hours a

week while going to school full time. He graduated with a bachelor’s

Degree in marketing in 2006 but soon discovered he needed more work

experience after he was laid off during the last great recession!

He was encouraged by his future wife to switch gears and it proved to

be good advice. His engaging personality, commitment to education and

bilingual abilities in Spanish and English landed him a job at Western

Michigan University’s admissions office in 2008. Salinas, who has since

completed a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs at

WMU, is now an Assistant Director for WMU-Grand Rapids.
