ESES historia y mar La historia de El Campello y sus habitantes está estrechamente ligada al mar. Siendo todavía una partida rural de Alicante a �nales del S. XVIII, el Principe Pío de Saboya D. Antonio de Valcarcel, que habitaba en la �nca "Mussey", en la actualidad ocupada por el Colegio de los Salesianos, estableció el primer astillero que daría lugar, a lo largo del S.XIX, al barrio marinero llamado del "Carrer la

Mar" y a una importante industria pesquera, llegando a ser la principal actividad económica de la localidad. De hecho, la �ota de El Campello era considerada, a principios del S. XX, la primera �ota de madera más importante del Mediterráneo contando con 200 embarcaciones y 1000 tripulantes.

LA ILLETA DELS BANYETSEste importante yacimiento, contiene restos de las principales culturas que habitaron nuestras tierras. Los primeros indicios de ocupación se remontan a la prehistoria hace más de 5.000 años con restos de las culturas del Calcolítico y Bronce; sin embargo, la mayor parte del Yacimiento está ocupada por el poblado Ibero, asentamiento que destaca por la abundancia de almacenes constituyendo en la época un importante puerto comercial. De época romana se han encontrado unas pequeñas termas y sobresalen las piscifactorías que han dado nombre al lugar, al pasar a la tradición popular como "Els Banyets de la Reina". ESEN history and sea El Campello’s and its inhabitants history is closely linked to the sea. At the end of the 18th Century, when it was still a rural part of Alicante, the Prince Pious of Saboya, Mr. Antonio de Valcarcel, who lived in the “Mussey” estate, currently occupied by the Salesianos School, set up the �rst shipyard which would lead to, during the course of the 19th Century, the creation of the �sherman’s area known as “Carrer la Mar”. This event developed a signi�cant �shing industry, which became the main economic activity of the town. In fact, the El Campello �eet was considered, at the beginning of the 20th Century, to be the leading wood �eet of the Mediterranean, with 200 vessels and 1000 crew.

LA ILLETA DELS BANYETSThis important site has the remains of the main cultures which inhabited our lands.The �rst indications of occupation date back to the prehistoric age, more than 5.000 years ago, with remains of the Chalcolithic and Bronze ages. The majority of the Site is taken up by the Iberian population, a settlement which stands out due to the abundance of warehouses which formed, in that period, a signi�cant commercial port. From the Roman era, small thermal baths have been found, and the �sh farms which have given their name to the place which through popular tradition is known as “Els Banyets de la Reina”, also stand out. rutas urbanasurban routesESES LA TORRE VÍGIA DE LA ILLETALas constantes incursiones a la costa de piratas berberiscos durante el siglo XVI, llevaron a la construcción de una línea de torres defensivas que avisaran a la población de su llegada. Éstas contaban con dos hombres en su interior y dos a caballo y se comunicaban entre sí por medio de señales de humo por el día o de fuego por la noche. En El Campello se alzan dos torres construidas entre 1554 y 1557: la Torre de La Illeta y la del Barranc d’ Aigües.La Torre de La Illeta es especial por sus dimensiones y por el tipo de construcción maciza. Fue restaurada en 1991 y constituye un auténtico emblema para los campelleros.

EL PUERTO DEPORTIVOGestionado por el Club Náutico Campello se inauguró en 1990 y cuenta con 421 amarres y 200 en marina seca. Es sede de diferentes actividades náuticas como regatas de vela y remo, campeonatos autonómicos y nacionales de pesca... Además cuenta con una escuela de vela que imparte diferentes disciplinas y dispone de unas modernas instalaciones e infraestructuras.

LA LONJA La historia de El Campello ha estado ligada desde siempre al mar y a sus hombres, constituyendo la Pesca la principal actividad económica del municipio durante los siglos XIX y primera mitad del XX. El puerto pesquero cuenta con 30 amarres y de entre sus instalaciones destaca la Lonja de pescado, donde, de lunes a viernes, todas las tardes, se realiza la subasta y venta directa al público de pescado fresco. Constituye ésta una actividad muy singular y arraigada en este municipio y que atrae a multitud de compradores y curiosos.

ESEN LA ILLETA WATCHTOWERThe constant invasions of the coast by Berber pirates during the 16th Century led to the construction of a line of defence towers which warned the people of their arrival. These held two men in the interior and two on horseback and they communicated between themselves through smoke signals by day and �res by night. In El Campello two towers were erected between 1554 and 1557: The Illeta Watchtower and the Barranc d’Aigües Watchtower. The Illeta Watchtower is unique due to its dimensions and its type of solid construction. It was restored in 1991 and is an authentic emblem for the El Campello townspeople.

THE MARINA Managed by the Club Náutico Campello it was inaugurated in 1990 and has 421 moorings and 200 in the high and dry marina. It is the centre of different water sports activities such as sailing and rowing regattas, autonomous and national �shing championships, … as well as having a sailing school which teaches different diciplines and modern facilities and infrastructures.

THE FISH MARKET The history of El Campello has always been linked to the sea and to its men, with Fishing being the main economic activity of the municipality during the 19th and �rst half of the 20th Centuries. The �shing port has 30 moorings and among its facilities the Lonja del pescado (�sh market) stands out, where, from Monday to Friday, a fresh �sh auction and sale to the public is held. This is a unique and appreciated activity in this town which attracts a multitude of buyers and interested people.

ESES ESENEL PASEO MARÍTIMOInaugurado en 1964, es uno de los mayores atractivos del municipio, ideal para el paseo, se ha convertido en la actualidad en el centro turístico y de ocio. La infraestructura hostelera y comercial nos permite degustar su rica gastronomía, tomar refrescantes helados y copas con música en agradables tertulias al aire libre en cualquier época del año. También acoge, entre otros eventos, la mayoría de actos programados en las �estas de verano en honor a la Virgen del Carmen en torno al 16 de julio.

MONUMENTO AL PESCADORObra del escultor Arcadi Blasco, consta de dos partes, una en tierra y otra en la playa, y simboliza la unión y dependencia que la población y sus gentes han mantenido históricamente con el mar.

CALLE SAN BARTOLOMÉSi el paseo marítimo constituye el centro de ocio, la calle San Bartolomé es la avenida que mayor número de comercios concentra, ofreciendo toda clase de artículos y servicios...

ERMITA DEL CARMENSubiendo la Avda. Carrer la Mar, tendremos la oportunidad de hacer un alto para admirar la Ermita del Carmen, la Virgen de los marineros, de gran tradición y devoción tal y como queda demostrado en las �estas estivales dedicadas en su honor. Las Fiestas del Carmen tienen lugar durante la primera quincena de Julio y culminan el día 16 con los actos más emotivos: la procesión marinera y el canto de la Salve Marinera en la Ermita.

CARRER LA MAR PROMENADEInaugurated in 1964, it is one of the main attractions of the municipality, ideal for a walk, it has become the centre of tourism and leisure today. The hotel and commercial infrastructure allow us to taste its rich gastronomy, enjoy refreshing ice-creams and drinks with music in enjoyable open air get-togethers at any time of the year. It also holds, among others, the majority of events programmed in the Summer festivities in honour of the Virgen del Carmen (Our Lady of Mount Carmel) around the 16th of July.

THE FISHERMAN'S MONUMENT A work of art by the sculptor Arcadi Blasco, it consists of two parts, one on the land, and the other on the beach, and symbolises the union and dependence that the town and its people have maintained with the sea throughout history.

SAN BARTOLOMÉ STREETIf the Carrer la Mar Promenade is the leisure centre, San Bartolomé street is the street on which the highest number of businesses congregate, offering all kinds of goods and services.

EL CARMEN CHAPEL We head towards the urban area of the town, travelling up Avda. del Mar, in which we have the opportunity to pause to admire the Carmen Chapel, the Virgen of the �shermen, of great tradition and devotion as seen in the Summer festivals held in her honour. The Carmen Fiestas take place during the �rst half of July and culminate on the 16th with the most emotional events: the �sherman’s procession and singing the Hail Mary -Salve- in the Chapel.

ESES ayer y hoy Centra su interés en la vida comercial que posee El Campello en un recorrido que se adentra en los rincones que conforman el centro del municipio, en donde se generó el primer núcleo urbano y en donde residen, en armonía con la tradición, algunos de nuestros edi�cios más emblemáticos: Pza. Constitución y Casa de Cultura, Calle Mayor, Plaza de la Iglesia, Carrer Pal, Pza. San Christol Lez Alès y Ayuntamiento, Avda. Generalitat y Parque Municipal.

ESTACIÓN DEL "TRENET"El ferrocarril de La Marina llegó a El Campello el 28 de octubre de 1914 y su estación, situada entonces a las afueras de los dos núcleos de población, separadas tradicionalmente por un barranco, fueron unidas por un camino que en la actualidad son las avenidas Del Mar y Generalitat. Esta línea ferroviaria contribuyó en gran medida al desarrollo económico y urbanístico del municipio.En la actualidad esta línea ferroviaria une El Campello a Alicante por medio del moderno Tranvía (TRAM) que circula cada 20 minutos y que en tan sólo otros 20 permite enlazar las dos poblaciones. El tranvía discurre por una de las principales playas del municipio: La Playa de Muchavista que cuenta con varias paradas, una de ellas, cerca de la �nca Villa Marco. Este tranvía continúa también hacia el norte hasta Benidorm y enlaza con el “trenet” hasta Dénia.

ESTACIÓN DEL "TRENET" (little train)The La Marina train reached El Campello on the 28th of October 1914 and its station, located at that time on the outskirts of the two centres of the town, originally separated by a ravine, were joined together by a road which are today the Generalitat and Del Mar avenues. This train line contributed greatly to the economic and urban development of the municipality. Today, this line links El Campello to Alicante by a modern TRAM which passes every 20 minutes. The tram runs along one of the most important beaches of the municipality, "Muchavista" beach, which has several stops, one of them near to the Villa Marco estate. This TRAM also continues north to Benidorm and links it with the "trenet" to Dénia.

PLAZA DE LA CONSTITUCIÓN Y CASA

DE CULTURALa Plaza de la Constitución, conocida popularmente como "Plaza de la Rana", puesto que durante muchos años albergó una pequeña fuente con la escultura de una rana que en la actualidad está en los jardines del Colegio Rafael Altamira, es fruto de la ampliación del centro urbano en la década de los 50 por las necesidades de vivienda.Esta plaza alberga edi�cios tan signi�cativos como "El Casino", lugar de reunión de los personajes más ilustres de la villa y sede de varias asociaciones locales.Destaca la Casa de Cultura, edi�cio de 5.000 m2 con un an�teatro al aire libre para 800 personas y auditorio para 500 espectadores, 2 salas de exposiciones, salas de ensayo... Cuenta con una programación continuada a lo largo del año con más de 1.000 actos y eventos de gran éxito: teatro, danza, cine, exposiciones, conciertos, recitales, etc. y que la han hecho merecedora de varios premios. También alberga el museo - colección FAMEC "Fondos Artísticos Municipales", que reúne buena parte de pinturas, esculturas y fotografías donadas por diversos artistas contemporáneos al consistorio. CASA DE CULTURAThe Plaza de la Constitución (Constitution Square), more commonly known as the “Plaza de la Rana” (Frog Square), given that, for many years, it had a fountain which housed the sculpture of a frog which is today in the gardens of the Rafael Altamira school, is the fruit of the expansion of the urban centre during the 50’s due to housing needs. This square houses buildings as important as the “El Casino”, a place where the most illustrious personalities of the town gather, and the centre of various local associations. The “Casa de Cultura” (Culture and Arts Centre) stands out as a building of 5,000 m2 with an open air theatre for 800 people and an auditorium for 500 spectators, 2 exhibition halls, rehearsal rooms... It has a continuous programme throughout the year with more than 1,000 highly successful acts and events from theatre, dance, cinema, exhibitions, concerts, recitals, etc. and which have made it worthy of numerous awards. It also houses the museum –FAMEC “Municipal Artistic Funds” collection, which brings together a large part of the paintings, sculptures and photographies donated by several artists to the consistory. BOULEVARD SAN RAMÓNEl Campello une modernidad con belleza en las nuevas rotondas que aligeran el trá�co a lo largo de la antigua CN-332 por el municipio (C/San Ramón). La hermosa fuente "Agua" que da la bienvenida al municipio, la escultura del "Rallador" y el conjunto "Nadando libre" nos recuerdan que nuestro municipio y sus habitantes han estado y estarán siempre ligados a nuestro mar".

PLAZA CANALEJASCirculando por la C/ Doctor Fleming y la Calle Mayor, llegaremos a la Plaza Canalejas por todos conocida como "Plaza de la Iglesia", uno de los lugares más antiguos de la población que se remonta a los origines del municipio y centro neurálgico de las celebraciones religiosas y festivas. En ella se encuentran emplazados algunos de los edi�cios más emblemáticos de El Campello: la Iglesia y el Centro Cultural "La Biblioteca", también destaca la casa situada en el número 1 que fue el primer Ayuntamiento del municipio. La Iglesia Parroquial, dedicada a la advocación de Santa Teresa y la Virgen de los Desamparados, fue construida en 1849 en sustitución del primer templo del S.XVIII, es punto de encuentro para la mayoría de las eventos festivos destacando las �estas de Moros y Cristianos del 11 al 15 de octubre.El Centro Cultural "La Biblioteca", cuenta con 3.000 m2 útiles distribuidos en 5 plantas y dispone de multitud de aulas, la "Sala Ramón Llull" con capacidad para 180 personas, amplio Hall que hace las veces de sala de exposiciones y recepciones o�ciales, y alberga, además de la Biblioteca Municipal, otros servicios municipales como la Agencia de Desarrollo Local "CADEM", el Archivo histórico...

CARRER PALEs una de las calles originarias del municipio, que conserva algunos ejemplos de la arquitectura popular, como el nº 51, que destaca por sus balcones con adornos modernistas.

BOULEVARD SAN RAMÓNEl Campello joins modernity with beauty in the new roundabouts that quicken the traf�c as the old road CN-332 (San Ramón St.) passes through the town. The beautiful fountain "Agua" that welcomes to the city, the sculpture of the "Rallador" and the set "Nadando libre", they remember us that El Campello and its inhabitants have been and will always be joined to our sea.

PLAZA CANALEJASWalking along Doctor Fleming St. y la Calle Mayor, we will reach Plaza Canalejas known as the Church Sq. one of the oldest places in the town dating back to its origins and neuralgic center of the religious and festive celebrations. In it, some of the most emblematic buildings of El Campello are emplaced.The Parish Church, dedicated to the worship of Saint Theresa and the Virgen de los Desamparados (Our Lady of the Forsaken) was built in 1849 to substitute the �rst temple from the 18th Century, is the meeting point for most of the �esta events, in particular the Moors and Christians from the 11th to the 15th of October. The Cultural Centre “The Library”, has 3,000 m2 of usable space distributed over 5 �oors and has a multitude of study rooms, the “Ramón Llull” room with a capacity for 180 people, a large hall which is used as an exhibition hall as well as an of�cial reception hall, and houses, as well as the Municipal Library, other municipal services, such as the Local Development Agency "CADEM" or the Historical Archive. Thre house at number 1 of this square is also to be mentioned as it was the �rst Town Hall of the municipality

PAL STREETIt is one of the original streets of the town and preserves some examples of traditional architecture, such as No 51 which stands out due to its balconies with modernist embellishments.

ESES ESENPLAZA SAN CHRISTOL LEZ ALESEl edi�cio del Ayuntamiento da paso a esta plaza de moderna construcción que recibe el nombre de la hermanada población francesa. Preside la misma el Pabellón polideportivo cubierto que, junto con el Polideportivo "El Vincle", completan las instalaciones deportivas del municipio. Se ofrecen multitud de disciplinas y son sede de muchos y variados acontecimientos deportivos.Esta plaza acoge, cada miércoles, el "mercadillo" de calle que ofrece a propios y visitantes todo tipo de productos y se convierte en un auténtico espectáculo.

AVENIDA GENERALITATEsta avenida es una de las principales arterias comerciales. Aquí podemos encontrar algunas casas de gran belleza por sus características ornamentales. En el número 6 localizaremos un mosaico de azulejos en la fachada que representa los orígenes marineros de la familia. También destaca la vivienda del nº 9 por sus ventanas con poyete de piedra y azulejo de cerámica en el alféizar. En los números 37 y 39 podemos apreciar el estilo típico de casas de doble planta, con balcones de forja y balcones modernistas.

PARQUE MUNICIPALEn el centro neurálgico de El Campello, encontramos esta magní�ca zona de esparcimiento, con zonas verdes, juegos para los más pequeños, la espectacular "Font del Centenari", que cuenta con iluminación nocturna, y un conjunto escultórico realizado por Carmen Fraile, que alude a las raíces históricas de nuestro municipio.

SAN CHRISTOL LEZ ALES SQUAREThe Town Hall building leads on to this modern built square which receives the name of the twinned French town. It presides over the covered sports pavilion, which, together with the “El Vincle” sports centre, complete the sports installations of the town. They offer a multitude of activities and are the centre for many and varied sports events. This square holds the “mercadillo” -street market- on Wednesdays which offers all kinds of products to townspeople and visitors and which is a unique sight.

GENERALITAT AVEThis avenue is one of the main shopping arteries. We can �nd some very beautiful houses here, due to their ornamental characteristics. At number 6 we �nd a mosaic of tiles on the house front representing the family’s �sherman origins. No 9 also stands out due to its windows with stone ledges and the ceramic tiles on the window sills. At numbers 37 and 39 we can witness the typical style of two storey houses with wrought iron and modernist balconies.

PARQUE MUNICIPAL - MUNICIPAL PARKIn the neuralgic center of El Campello, we �nd this beautifull park, with green spaces, games for children, the spectacular "Font del Centenari", which relies on night lighting, and a sculptural set realized by Carmen Fraile, that alludes to the historical roots of our town.

SALESIANOSLos Salesianos tienen una gran importancia histórica para el municipio. Además de los servicios religiosos, cuenta con una espectacular pinada que rodea las instalaciones, dotada de mesas y asientos al aire libre, y de zona para juegos infantiles a escasos metros de la Playa Muchavista y el Rincón de la Zofra. Es un lugar ideal para pasar un día con la familia y amigos.Te sugerimos que asistas a la Romería de María Auxiliadora que se celebra cada mes de mayo.

PASEO PLAYA DE MUCHAVISTADiscurre a lo largo de los más de 3.000 m de esta playa, por toda la Avda. Jaume I, que llega sin división geográ�ca a la de San Juan de Alicante. Es un agradable y apacible paseo en un entorno moderno.

VILLA MARCOFinca rústica del s. XIX en la que se encuentran un encantador palacete modernista cuyos bellos jardines, de inspiración versallesca, albergan dos esculturas de Vicente Bañuls: La Noche y La Marsellesa.

ESEN muchavistaWalking, by TRAM or by bus, we can get into what it used to be the Huerta de Alicante (L’Horta) -irrigated region-. The visit to the Salesianos, with its impressive pine forest, is worthy as well as walking along the Promenade of Playa Muchavista and reaching to the Villa Marco Estate.

MUCHAVISTA PROMENADEThe promenade of Muchavista’s Beach roams along more than 3.000 m of this beach, for the whole Jaume I Avenue, which comes without geographical division to the beach of San Juan of Alicante. It is an agreeable and pleasant walk in a modern environment.

VILLA MARCORustic property from the 19th. Century where you can �nd a small modernist style palace with clear colonial French art in�uences and some beautiful Versailles inspiration gardens that house two sculptures by the sculptor Vicente Bañuls: La Noche and La Marsellesa.

La ruta medioambiental, autoguiada por seis paneles de L’Institut d’Ecològia

Litoral, nos permite conocer las características biológicas y antropológicas de este valioso entorno natural. Durante nuestro recorrido por este balcón al mar, disfrutaremos de un conjunto escultórico del artista Vicente Ferrero, formado por tres esculturas cuyo tema común es la mujer, que se alza en completa armonía con el paisaje que las rodea: "La bañista", "Tronco" y "Niña leyendo".

En El Campello estar en contacto con la naturaleza es fácil. Adéntrate en ella a pie, en bicicleta o a caballo.El paraje de les Puntes de Gosàlvez, auténtica atalaya al mar con espectaculares vistas de la costa, constituye todo un legado paisajístico y etnológico del municipio. El sendero Local SL-CV 93, que lo recorre, nos acerca a conocer la rica variedad de especies de nuestro territorio así como los vestigios del modo de la vida en el campo de nuestros antepasado.

a walk around our coastlineThe natural environment and in particular the richness of out coasts are worthy of special attention, a fact which has brought them the environmental Management certi�cation ISO 14.001 and the European Blue Flag recognition.At the foot of the Illeta Watchtower LA VORAMAR DE LES ESCULTURES walk begins, which follows the coast until it reaches the Almadrava Beach. The environmental route, self-guided by six panels of the L’institut d’Ecològia Litoral, (the Institute for Coastal Ecology) allows us to discover the biological and anthropological characteristics of this valued natural environment. During our walk along this pleasant beach balcony, we can enjoy the sculptural collection by the artist Vicente Ferrero, composed of three sculptures whose common theme is woman, which are erected in complete harmony with the landscape surrounding them: "La bañista", "Tronco" and "Niña leyendo".
