2. Un plànol de la ciutat de Tarragona.
Activitat
A continuació trobaràs dos textos:
El primer text et parla sobre tres personatges d’una família com els que podien
haver viscut a Tarragona en època romana.
El segon és sobre monuments que encara es poden veure a Tarragona i que
hauràs de localitzar al plànol.
Avaluació
Consistirà bàsicament en veure si has estat capaç de treure la informació que et
demanen les diferents activitats.
Igualment has de demostrar que comprens el significat global dels textos que hi
ha a les activitats.

READING: OUR ROMAN FAMILY
Child
She has to get up early, at seven o´clock. When she has
washed her hands and her face she goes and meets her
parents. After breakfast, at eight o´clock she goes to
school until midday.
When she has finished her lessons she goes home for
midday meal. She eats cold meat, salad and sausages and pancakes with honey.
She drinks water.
In the afternoon, she goes with her mother to the public baths. She meets her
friends and plays games.
In the evening she comes back home and does her homework. Then she has
dinner and at nine o´clock she goes to bed.
Father
He gets up very early in the morning, at six o´clock. After
breakfast he runs the family business. He sells things from the
farms on his land.
At midday he comes back home. He eats cold meat, salad,
sausages and pancakes with honey. He drinks wine.
In the afternoon the father goes to the town to get some material
for making clothes.
In the evening he goes to the temple and makes offerings of
corn and wine to the gods. Then, he comes back home. He has
dinner at eight o´clock and at half past nine he goes to bed.
Slave
He gets up at half past five. Later on he does the farm work and
at eleven o´clock he goes to the market to do the shopping.
At 12 o´clock he comes back home. He does the lunch and
brings the cold meal to the family. He eats later, a bit of cheese
with bread and drinks wine.
In the afternoon he makes tiles and bricks for buildings, cups,
beakers, bowls, jugs and jars for the kitchen and dining-table.
Then he does the dinner, brings it to the family and goes to bed
ten o´clock.

OUR ROMAN MONUMENTS
Amphitheatre
In the amphitheatre there were fights between men and animals. It had a roundish form.
In the middle, there was a place called arena, where gladiators fought. Around them,
people sat down and watched the show. This monument was beside the sea.
Aqueduct
It was a monument used for canalizing water to Tarraco.
It was 4 km far and had 36 arches. It was 27 metres high
and 127 metres long.
Arch of Berà
This monument was built to celebrate a great event. Romans
constructed them when they won a victory over the enemy.
People could pass under the monument. It is 20 km far from
Tarraco.
Forum
It was in the middle of the village. In the forum there were shops, houses, churches, etc.
People went to the forum to buy food, clothes and shoes. There were butchers,
greengrocers, bakeries, taverns, etc. This place was usually full of people.
Wall
It was built with big stones. It was for the defence of the city. It was around Tarraco and
did not let enter the enemies. People had their houses behind the wall. It was a very
strong construction. Its length was 4 km.

Where are these places? Mark them on the map
A. You walk straight along Pere Martell Street. Turn left and go straight up Eivissa
Street. At the end you will see the necropolis.
B. You walk straight along Rambla Nova facing the sea. Turn left and walk straight
up Compte Rius Street. Turn right and go straight along Rambla Vella. Finally,
turn left and you will arrive at Via Augusta Road. Then you will see the
amphitheatre.
C. You walk straight Estanislau Figueres Avenue. Turn left and walk straight
Imperi Romà Avenue. At the end you will arrive at the wall.
D. You walk straight along Prat de la Riba Avenue. You go across Plaça Ponent
roundabout and turn left up Lleida Street. On your right hand you will see the
forum.
