Composition helps the student to express his views on what is happening in the world around

him, besides expressing personal thoughts, feelings and experiences.

    Teachers' Day

Every year, all schools throughout Malaysia celebrate

Teachers' Day - a day to honour and remember our teacherswho are our leaders and who guide us in our educationduring our youthful days.

Teachers are very much a part of a student's life as theyinfluence a child, right from Kindergarten days to UpperSecondary days; and perhaps beyond. It is they who preparethe child for his or her life in society.

Teachers' Day is held to show our appreciation to ourteachers who work hard and bear patiently with us. In mostschools, pupils bring gifts of flowers, presents and othertokens, which are sometimes hand-made, to show that theycare for their teachers. A party is held where tastyrefreshments and drinks are served in the classroom for boththe teachers and the students. Everyone has a good time

and the day ends earlier than usual.

Teachers play a very important role in the development of achild. However, their efforts are seldom appreciated. That iswhy Teachers' Day is so significant to teachers; it is only onthis day that they are appreciated and honoured for theirdeeds.

Teacher's Day in India is celebrated on September 5, every year. Indian

Teachers Day is dedicated to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a

staunch believer of education and was one of the greatest scholars and

teachers of all times, apart from being the President of India. As a tribute to

this great teacher, his birthday is observed as Teachers Day in India. This is

not a holiday but is known for celebrations across the country. It marks the

birth anniversary of former Indian president and teacher Dr. Sarvapalli

Radhakrishnan. During his tenure as a president, he was approached by

his students and friends and was asked to celebrate 5th September, his

birthday. He rather told them to observe this day as the Teacher's Day.

From then onwards, this day is celebrated as the Teacher's Day.

Since times immemorial, Indians have respected their teachers. Earlier we

used to call our teachers. And now it's the modern 'Sir' or 'Madam'.

Nonetheless, the role of teachers has remained the same. They were and

they are our guides, creating conditions conducive to our overall

development. And we students will always be thankful for their

constructive support. As an expression of our thanks, we celebrate Teacher's

    Day in India.

Teacher's Day in India is a tribute to the hard work that is put by the

teacher all year long to educate a child. In India, teacher day is celebrated

on 5th of September. Indian Teachers Day is dedicated to Dr. Sarvepalli

Radhakrishnan, who was a staunch believer of education and was one ofthe greatest scholars and teachers of all times, apart from being the

President of India. As a tribute to this great teacher, his birthday is

observed as Teachers Day in India.

On Teacher's day schools students dress up as their teachers and take

lectures in classes that are assigned to the teachers they represent.

Sometimes teachers sit in their classes as students, reliving again the time

when they themselves were students. Thus, both students as well as teachers

get to understand each other's position. Also, functions are organized inschools on Teacher's Day. Students present various programs for the

entertainment of their teachers. In addition to being the day when the efforts

of teachers are recognized, it provides a chance for healthy interaction

    between students and teachers.

Today was a different day for me because I am a teacher. Ihave been a teacher of English for more than twenty years.

And every year this day adds fuel to my life as a teacher. Thereason is today is the Teachers Day in Nepal. It iscelebrated by students on the full moon day of a Nepalimonth Ashad (June-July).

At seven in the morning, one of my former students made asurprise visit to my suburban home in Kathmandu. He came, wished me a Happy Teachers Day and gave me a bouquetof flowers and sweets. Though things are not of much valuein themselves, they become special on this particular day.

In the late morning and the afternoon, I received textmessages so many that I could not reply to all. All messages

were best wishes from my dear students. One read like this:Wish you a great, prosperous, blissful, healthy, bright, mindblowing, energetic, terrific and extremely happy TeachersDay!! Whatever words it had, it brought the love that thisstudent had for me.

In Nepal, as I said in my Interview to the Teaching EnglishTeam. So, students either visit their teachers with flowers

and sweets or organize a function at school to mark the day. They literally worship the teacher placing him or her on aspecial chair, smearing red color on the face, decoratingthem with garlands and offering them sweets. Some willrecite poems and others will offer words of praise for them.

How is this day celebrated in your countries? Would be greatto know how similar and how different this day is in the way it

is marked in different societies.Happy Teachers day to you all!!!
