    INTRODUCTION:The Cervical cancer in Trujillo has an incidence of

    43.2/100.000, being the highest nationally.The 83.5% of cases of cervical cancer treated at theNORTH IREN are clinical stages II-IV.The Visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) in healthfacilities and primary care in geographically remoteareas. is an alternative in screening cervical cancer.health providers trained in this technique of detection.

    METHODOLOGY:We performed a descriptive, retrospective and

    cross which analyzed the medical records of patients referred to NORTH IREN, during the years2011 and 2012, evaluated 276 patients who werescreened at the health facilities of the first level of care, with VIA and PAP results positive for todetermine the impact, effectiveness of the testand its correlation with colposcopy andhistopathology.

    RESULTS:The 21.4% (59) of the patients referred to ourinstitution, had positive VIA results, while 78.6%

    were lesions of high-grade cervicalintraepithelial, low grade. ASCUS. etc., in screeningpap.

    CONCLUSIONS:The cervical cancer screening with VIA, is

    performed in the primary care level by healthproviders, doctors, midwives trained at ourinstitution who report cases with positive resultsto the health network in Trujillo and the part of these patients screened VIA NORTH IREN arereferred to .The VIA provides immediate , of low cost andoutcomes of patients referred to NORTH IRENshow a high percentage of efficacy and correlationwith final histopathology, demonstrating thatproviders trained by our institution acquired the

    capacity and competence to apply this technicalhealth facilities .This screening technique can be used in the secondlevel of care that does not have the necessaryequipment for the detection and diagnosis , so thatthese skills should be strengthened by trainingmore health providers in VIA, through the strategicprogramof cancer, throughout our region.

    The VIA positive results were confirmedhistopathology results in 81.3% (48) obtaining asdiagnosis CIN I II III or invasive carcinoma, whereas18.7% (11) were the results of chronic cervicitismetaplasiaor negative .
