Hipótesis:
1. El vapor y líquido tienen el tiempo de contacto suficiente para lograr equilibrio (no se tienen en cuenta los parámetros geométricos).
2. La presión de líquido y vapor son las del tambor separador (DP = 0). Esto implica que no consideramos componentes usuales en el equipo (por ejemplo: separadores de gotas) y la caída de presión que se origina en ellos.
3. Existe sólo una fase líquida y vapor (L-V).
4. No existen reacciones químicas.

¿Cómo sabemos la/s fase/s de una corriente?
• No es un problema trivial la predicción de fases.
• En general de conoce la composición global de la corriente y dos propiedades intensivas (P y T; P y H; T y H, etc..).
• En nuestros ejemplos sencillos donde solo consideramos equilibrio L-V de fluidos condensables podemos analizar el punto de rocío y burbuja de la mezcla para predecir la fase de una corriente (L, V o L-V).
• Remarcamos la conclusión acerca de la predicción (y estabilidad) de fases que figura en el manual de usuarios del simulador comercial HYSYS:
