Gil Family Winemakers

Bartolomé Abellán Bodegas Juan Gil | D.O. Jumilla Bartolomé is the winemaker at Bodegas Juan Gil and the technical director overseeing the Gil Family Estates wineries. Born in Jumilla in 1978, Bartolomé has a degree in Chemical Sciences from the University of Murcia and a master’s degree in Oenology. His career has evolved within the group since he joined them in 2003. His favorite wines are those made from the Monastrell grape, with a high concentration of fruit, voluptuous yet silky and complex at the same time.

Andrés Monsalve Bodegas Shaya | D.O. Rueda Andrés studied as a Technical Specialist in viticulture and winemaking in Madrid, as well as Technical Agricultral Engineering. Throughout the time he was studying, Andrés worked as a winemaker or assistant winemaker in the Spanish P.D.O. regions of Mondejar, Mancha, Bierzo, and Cigales. He finished in D.O. Rueda and since 2008 has been the winemaker at Bodegas Shaya.

David Landin Lagar Da Condesa | D.O. Rias Baixas Born in Barro (Pontevedra) in 1977, David is an Agronomist at the University of Lleida and holds a degree in Oenology from the Universidad Rovira y Virgil. In 2003, after working a year in Bordeaux, he returned to Galicia to complete his Doctoral thesis in Oenology and Viticulture in Pontevedra, a task he combined with consulting for various wineries in the Val do Salnés area and in the D.O. Monterrey. Since 2013, David has worked for Gil Family Estates as the winemaker at Lagar Da Condesa.

Frank Gonzales Bodegas Atalaya – D.O. Almansa | Bodegas Tridente – V.T. Castilla y Leon | Bodegas Morca – Campo de Borja Frank is Australian with Spanish parents and began his winemaking in Australia. He assisted Chris Ringland at Bodegas El Nido from 2002 to 2007 and in 2009 began winemaking at Bodegas Atalaya. Frank’s continued growth with Gil Family Estates led to his direction of Bodegas Tridente in 2011 and Bodegas Morca in 2014.

Nuria Lopéz Sarroca Cellers Can Blau | D.O. Montsant Nuria began her career in the wine industry in 1997 after receiving her degree in Oenology from the Universidad Rovira y Virgil. From 1997 to the present, Nuria has enjoyed working in international locations including Australia, Chile, New Zealand, Spain, and the United States (Napa, CA). Through her training, she has gained experience with a wide range of climates, soil types and varietals. Her goal is to establish herself as a global winemaker dedicated to the production of premium quality wine.

Roberto Perez Martinez Bodegas Ateca | D.O. Calatayud Born in Borja (Zaragoza), Roberto attended the School of Agriculture in La Rioja and earned his Master’s degree in 2002. He then returned to Zaragoza where he worked in Ainzon as a winemaker before joining the Gil Family as winemaker at Bodegas Ateca. Roberto has focused his entire winemaking career on his favorite varietal, Garnacha, and he is known for being able to highlight the delicate and fruit driven complexities of the varietal. Roberto and the Gil Family’s passion for Garnacha is apparent in their commitment to producing Spain’s finest expression of this varietal.
