The O rce cranial fragmen t VM-0 was foun d in 1983 at the Lower P leistocene site oVenta M icena and classified as hum an. Because the p resence of a sm all internal crethe occipital some students suggested that the fssil belonged to and equid 2 mo nthNerver in the litherature and equid skull of similar characteristics than VM -0 has bereported. Radiographic studies and anatom ical and imm unological arguments haverefuted the equid hypothesis Recen tly, Dr. Martnez-Navarro considers VM -0 as thebregm atic zone of a juvenile fem ale ruminant without cranial appendages. This newinterpretation is based on three points: (1) similarity between the sutures and anglethe bregm atic regions in skulls of rum inants and VM -0; (2) anatomic similarity of tbregm a region of the rum inant exocranium with that of VM -0; and (3) similarity inbregm atic region of the endocranium (presence of a c rest, sagittal sulcus, and cerebimpressions). In this comm unication we refute these assertions and w e add a d iscussion abou t newpoints that permits to discriminate VM-0 from ruminants and allow us to c onsider ihuman one.
