SAINT CECILIA SCHOOL FRIDAY NEWSLETTER October 5, 2018 Dear St. Cecilia Family, This week flew by. We are quickly moving closer to Terra Nova week (10/15-19) for all students- yuck - and the rigors of the reading assessment for our third graders on the EdChoice Scholarship. Please support your students with a regular and predictable schedule including plenty of rest and opportunities for quiet reading time. Strep has hit the building as well as some ear infections, stomach viruses and colds. Please remind your children to wash their hands thoroughly throughout the day, get plenty of rest, and to drink plenty of water. The maintenance staff is working hard to keep our school as germ free as possible. Please remember the guidelines for keeping ill children at home. We ask for 24 hrs clear of fever and vomiting. Our schedule is pretty clear of special events this week. We do have Picture Retake and Make up on Friday, October 12. Other than that, the week will be pretty calm. I hope you are all enjoying the fall weather and are ready for the last breath of summer (I think) this weekend. Be safe and relax. I'll see everyone on Monday. Mrs. Lori Smith

Dear St. Cecilia Family, This week flew by. Nos estamos acercando a la semana de los Terra Nova (10/15-19) para todos los estudiantes- yuck- y los rigores de la evaluación de lectura para nuestros estudiantes de tercer año en la beca de la Ed Choice. Por favor apoye a sus estudiantes con un horario regular y predecible que incluya mucho descanso y oportunidades para un tiempo tranquilo. Estreptococo nos ha pegado en nuestro edificio asi como tambien infecciones de oido, virus de estomago y resfriados. Por favor recuerde a sus niños lavarse muy bien las manos, tener mucho descanso y beber mucha agua. El personal de mantenimiento esta trabajando muy duro para mantener libre de germenes como sea posible. Por favor recuerde los lineamientos para mantener a los ninos en casa. Pedimos 24 horas libre de fiebre y vomito. Nuestro horario esta libre de eventos especiales esta proxima semana. Tenemos las re- toma de fotografias el Viernes 12 de Octubre. Solo esto, toda el resto de la semana esta muy tranquila. Yo espero que todos esten disfrutando del otoño y que este listos por el ultimo suspiro del verano ( yo creo) este fin de semana. Mantengase seguro y relajado. Nos vemos el Lunes.

Please mark your calendars for our annual St. Cecilia craft show on October 20th. Look for volunteer signups on School speak in the next week. We especially need some strong muscles to help set-up on Friday the 19th and for tear down Saturday after the show at 3:00pm. Get your volunteer hours and help make our show a success. Proceeds from the show goes to the PTO which means it goes right back to benefit all our students. Also if you have a craft show yard sign from last year that you will display or if you are interested in getting one please contact the school office and let them know. Have a great weekend!

There has been diagnosed positive Strep in both 1st grade and 3rd grades. Symptoms to look for include:
Fever.
Swollen lymph nodes in the neck.
Red, swollen tonsils.
Little red and/or white spots in the back of the throat.
Headache.
If your child has any of these symptoms, please seek the care of a medical professional. Strep requires antibiotics and is very contagious!
If your student has a fever, please do not send them to school until they have been fever free without medicine for 24 hours. If your student has been vomiting, please do not send them to school until it has been 24 hours since they have last vomited.
On Monday, SchoolSpeak forms went home. Even if there have been no recent changes to your information, please fill out the cell phone provider field and return to us. Once we have your cell phone provider, we will be able to send texts as well as e-mails from SchoolSpeak. We think this will make our communication efforts even better!

We are pleased to announce that we are putting into place a new system that will make scheduling volunteer opportunities at St. Cecilia much easier for everyone! Many of you may already be familiar with the Ministry Scheduler Pro (MSP) software that
we are using for liturgical ministry assignments. Volunteer Scheduler Pro (VSP) operates on a very similar platform and is very easy to use. We will begin implementing this system initially with our Bingo program, but in the near future, we will be utilizing
it for various other volunteer opportunities such as the parish festival and other school functions. Using this online system, you'll be able to specify exactly what times do and do not work well for you to volunteer. You'll also be able to check your schedule
from anywhere and easily find a substitute when you can't make one of your scheduled dates. If you are currently on an existing Bingo team, your scheduled dates and job assignments are already in the system for you
through the end of this year. If you are not on a regular Bingo team, you can volunteer in any open slots by simply adding yourself to those open positions that need filled. All users in the system are automatically qualified to fill a 'Bingo Instants
Worker' position. If you desire to be trained in any other position, please contact the parish office at 614-878-5353. For your convenience, all school families have already been entered into this system. You will be receiving an email early next
week with instructions on how to log in and access the volunteer schedule. Please take the time to look at the program, update your user information, and fill in for any open volunteer slots! Even if you don’t volunteer with Bingo, this program will
eventually be used for most of our volunteer opportunities in the parish and school. If you have any questions, please contact

Western Irish Football Western Irish will host their annual homecoming event this year on October 20th at Our Lady of Perpetual help in Grove City. The 4th grade will start the day of with the first game at 1, followed by the 5th at 3:15. Our 6th grade will then play their game at 6:15 followed by the varsity team of 7th & 8th graders at 8:30. This is always a big crowd and a great event. Hope to see you there.
OSU / Nebraska Tickets The Western Irish Football program is hosting it's annual fundraiser by raffling off 2 tickets to this years’ OSU / Nebraska game. The game is on November 3rd at The Shoe. Tickets are $10 a chance and the drawing will be during the 6th grade game on October 20th at OLPH (You do not need to be in attendance). Please see a Western Irish football player or contact Bob Kapala the St. Cecilia Athletic Director at [email protected] for your chance to enter.
Middle School Dance The Athletic Association will host our annual fall Middle School dance on November 10th for students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. We are looking for parent volunteers for this event. We need help setting up, tearing down,, chaperones, concession and door workers. We are also looking for a parent to co-chair this event with Katie Kapala and Katie Wohrle. Please contact Bob Kapala at [email protected] today.

graduado del Colegio Preparatoria de St Charles, Nathan Lancia, es un
semifinalista en el Programa Nacional de Merito, por su excepcional
presentación en el PSAT/NMSQT el otono pasado. Mas de 1.6 millones de
estudiantes de High School tomaron el examen, aproximadamente 16,000
fueron seleccionados semifinalistas. St Cecilia junto con St Charles
felicitan a Nathan for sus grandiosos logros academicos, asi como a sus
padres y maestros.
