La Presentación del Señor

"Cuando se cumplieron los días de la purificación de ellos, según la Ley de Moisés, llevaron a Jesús a Jerusalén para presentarle al Señor, como está escrito en la Ley del Señor: «Todo varón primogénito será consagrado al Señor» y para ofrecer en sacrificio un par de tórtolas o dos pichones, conforme a lo que se dice en la Ley del Señor. Y he aquí que había en Jerusalén un hombre llamado Simeón; este hombre era justo y piadoso, y esperaba la consolación de Israel; y estaba en él el Espíritu

Santo. Le había sido revelado por el Espíritu Santo que no vería la muerte antes de haber visto al Cristo del Señor. Movido por el Espíritu, vino al Templo; y cuando los padres introdujeron al niño Jesús, para cumplir lo que la Ley prescribía sobre Él, le tomó en brazos y bendijo a Dios diciendo: «Ahora, Señor, puedes, según tu palabra, dejar que tu siervo se vaya en paz; porque han visto mis ojos tu salvación, la que has preparado a la vista de todos los pueblos, luz para iluminar a los gentiles y gloria de tu pueblo Israel». Su padre y su madre estaban admirados de lo que se decía de Él.

Simeón les bendijo y dijo a María, su madre: «Éste está puesto para caída y elevación de muchos en Israel, y para ser señal de contradicción —¡y a ti misma una espada te atravesará el alma!— a fin de que queden al descubierto las intenciones de muchos corazones». Había también una profetisa, Ana, hija de Fanuel, de la tribu de Aser, de edad avanzada; después de casarse había vivido siete años con su marido, y permaneció viuda hasta los ochenta y cuatro años; no se apartaba del Templo, sirviendo a Dios noche y día en ayunos y oraciones. Como se presentase en aquella misma hora, alababa a Dios y hablaba del Niño a todos los que esperaban la redención de Jerusalén. Así que cumplieron todas las cosas según la Ley del Señor, volvieron a Galilea, a su ciudad de Nazaret. El Niño crecía y se fortalecía, llenándose de sabiduría; y la gracia de Dios estaba sobre Él". And behold, there was in Jerusalem a man named Simeon; this man was righteous and pious, and awaited the consolation of Israel; and there was in him

the Holy Spirit. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. Moved by the Spirit, he came to the Temple; and when the parents introduced the child Jesus, to fulfill what the Law prescribed about him, he took him in his arms and blessed God saying: "Now, Lord, you can, at your word, let your servant go in peace; for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all peoples, light to enlighten the Gentiles and glory of your people Israel. " His father and mother were amazed at what was said about Him.

Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: "This is set for fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign of contradiction - and you yourself a sword will pierce your soul! - In order to be uncovered the intentions of many hearts ».

Presentación del Señor Cuando María y José llevaron a Jesús al Templo, ofrecieron un obsequio de sacrificio "de acuerdo con el dictado de la ley del Señor". Una ofrenda de un tamaño o tipo específico no se "dicta" cuando llevamos nuestros obsequios al altar. en la misa. ¿Mi regalo refleja las bendiciones que he recibido? Ver Lucas 2:24

Presentation of the Lord When Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the Temple, they offered a sacrificial gift “in accord with the dictate in the law of the Lord.” An offering of a specific size or kind is not “dictated” when we bring our gifts to the altar at Mass. Is my gift reflective of the blessings I have received? See Luke 2:24

LA PRESENTACION DEL SENOR/ THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD

MEDITACIÓN EVANGÉLICO - ENTENDIMIENTO MÁS PROFUNDO DE LA ESCRITURA Cuarenta días después de la Navidad celebramos la Fiesta de la Presentación del Señor que narra la siguiente descripción según el Evangelio de San Lucas: “Asimismo, cuando llegó el día en que, de acuerdo a la Ley de Moisés, debían cumplir el rito de la purificación, llevaron al niño a Jerusalén para presentarlo al Señor, tal como está escrito en la Ley del Señor: Todo varón primogénito será consagrado al Señor. También ofrecieron el sacrificio que ordena la Ley del Señor: una pareja de tórtolas o dos pichones.” (Lucas 2:22-24). Presentarse al templo para cumplir con la ley era un requisito muy importante para la familia de Nazaret. Allí, ellos encontraron al anciano Simeón, un hombre justo y temeroso de Dios, y Ana, sabia profetisa. Ambos reconocieron en Jesús la esperanza y la luz para el pueblo de Israel. En este día se bendicen las velas que significan que Jesús es la luz del mundo. “La liturgia de hoy nos muestra a Jesús que va al encuentro de su pueblo. Es la fiesta del encuentro: la novedad del Niño se encuentra con la tradición del templo; la promesa halla su cumplimiento; María y José, jóvenes, encuentran a Simeón y Ana, ancianos. Todo se encuentra, en definitiva, cuando llega Jesús. ¿Qué nos enseña esto? En primer lugar, que también nosotros estamos llamados a recibir a Jesús que viene a nuestro encuentro. Encontrarlo: al Dios de la vida hay que encontrarlo cada día de nuestra existencia; no de vez en cuando, sino todos los días. Seguir a Jesús no es una decisión que se toma de una vez por todas, es una elección cotidiana.” (Papa Francisco) ¿Dónde se encuentra Jesús ahora? VIVIR LA LITURGIA - INSPIRACIÓN DE LA SEMANA La celebración de hoy puede verse como otra especie de “epifanía”, mediante la cual se reconoce a Jesús como el que cumplirá las expectativas mesiánicas del pueblo judío. Jesús es quien viene a purificar y refinar a la humanidad y a proporcionarnos con la dirección y el enfoque adecuados. Jesús también se nos presenta a cada uno de nosotros. ¿Lo aceptaremos como es o solo como queremos o necesitamos que sea? El mensaje del Evangelio está destinado a ser escuchado entero y completo. Cuando lo es, siempre es una experiencia muy desafiante y cambiante, que incluso puede hacer que los más santos se sientan un poco incómodos. Ser purificado y refinado nunca es fácil y requiere que nos entreguemos completamente a Dios y a Su diseño. ¿Estamos dispuestos a hacerlo? PREGUNTAS DE LA SEMANA - INVITAMOS A TODOS LOS PARROQUIANOS A REFLEXIONAR Y RESPONDER Primera Lectura Cuatrocientos años antes del nacimiento de Cristo, el profeta Malaquías habló del “mensajero de la Alianza” que sería enviado para refinar y purificar la comunidad judía. ¿Cómo evaluarías el estado actual de tu propia comunidad de fe en términos de su refinamiento y pureza? Segunda Lectura El autor de la carta a los hebreos escribe que Jesús era como nosotros “en todos los sentidos”, inclu-so siendo probado, sufriendo y muriendo. ¿De qué manera eres más probado en tu vida? GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE “Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in the sight of all the peoples: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.” Very often, having more light is not something we desire as it forces us to confront something we really do not want to see. There can be comfort found in darkness. It has an eerie sense of security to it. We do not have to challenge ourselves or be challenged and can simply exist in some fabricated state of self-fabricated blissfulness. Jesus came to bring light, and it is a light that is resisted by many and hated by some. It is a light that causes us to see things as they really are and not as we would want or need them to be. It is no wonder then that Simeon boldly and honestly proclaims to Mary, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted and you yourself a sword will pierce so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” We have to take the Gospel message as it is and not just use those parts that are useful to us or more palatable. Taking Jesus at face value can and will lead to turmoil and dissention. Hearts will be pierced. Whether we like it, Jesus’ proclamation of what the world God created really ought to look like has real and absolute social implications. It has a lot to say about how we treat our brothers and sisters: spiritually, personally, economically, and globally. It has everything to do with the poor, the immigrant, the scared, the unborn, the vulnerable, the sick, and the broken. The light opens us to a challenging, table-turning experience that may not be something we want to see but shows us where we need to be. LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK Today’s celebration can be seen as another “epiphany” of sorts, whereby Jesus is recognized as the one who will fulfill the Jewish people’s messianic expectations. Jesus is the one who comes to purify and refine humanity and provide us with proper direction and focus. Jesus also presents himself to each one of us. Will we accept him as he is or only as we want or need him to be? The Gospel message is meant to be heard whole and entire. When it is, it is always a very challenging, table-turning experience that can make even the holiest among us feel a bit uncomfortable. Being purified and refined never comes easy and requires that we give ourselves fully to God and His design. Are we willing to do so? QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK - WE INVITE TO ALL PARISHIONERS TO REFLECT AND RESPOND TO SCRIPTURE First Reading Four hundred years before the birth of Christ, the prophet Malachi spoke of “the messenger of the covenant” who would be sent to refine and purify the Jewish community. How would you assess the current state of your own faith community in terms of its refinement and purity? Second Reading The author of Hebrews writes that Jesus was like us “in every way,” even being tested, suffering, and dying. In what ways are you most tested in your life? Gospel Reading Mary and Joseph receive further revelations about the infant Jesus during the Jewish presentation rite in the Jerusalem Temple. How do you imagine they supported each other with these revelations about Jesus? What do you think were people’s initial reaction to Jesus? ©LPi

A Recipe for Happiness: The Beatitudes

Did you know that Jesus gave us a recipe for living a happy life? In the book of Matthew, the Bible says, "Now when Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on a mountainside and sat down.

His disciples came to Him, and He began to teach them." He taught them a lesson we call "The Beatitudes."

Each one of the beatitudes starts with the words, "Blessed are they..." Some translations of the Bible use the word happy instead of blessed. So this is Jesus’ recipe for us to be happy.

I like that the word “beatitudes” has two parts to it: be and attitude. The Beatitudes are ways that we can be and attitudes we can have.

Let’s look at a few of these be-attitudes.

Jesus said to…

Be merciful to people. To be kind when they are hurting.

Jesus said to...

Be peacemakers when people are fighting.

Jesus said to…

Have an attitude of pure thoughts.

Jesus said to...

Have an attitude of wanting to do right.

Jesus also said that when we are sad, God comforts us and then we are happy.

I like that Jesus gave us a recipe for how to be and what kind of attitudes to have. And Jesus says that we will be happy if we follow His recipe.

Dear God, thank You for the beatitudes. Please help us follow Your recipe for a happy and blessed life.

In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
