February 25th,Second Sunday of Lent Febrero 25 Segundo Domingo de Cuaresma
Dear Parishioners,
In our Lenten book study there is a beautiful section that talks about the truths that help to affirm us in our
relationship with God. I have shared a few of them below for you. They are great to bring to prayer and
meditate on:
God resolves all my problems with time and patience.
My life’s greatest tragedies can be transformed into my life’s major blessings.
God gives me insights, not because I am better than others, but because I am loved.
Journeying with Christ to the root of my sins and addictions will help break their grip.
I will not waste time worrying about my sins and failures. I will use my time wisely and ask God to help
me understand the source of my sins and failings. I will trust that Christ came to heal all my wounds.
I trust that God will lead me.
Blessings,
Fr. Peter
Queridos Parroquianos,
Bendiciones, P. Peter

Quote of the Week _________________________________________________________________
“[Jesus] knocks at the heart of those who par-ticipate in the Mass, each one in his or her
condition of life, age, situation. The Lord com-forts, calls, brings forth sprouts of a new and reconciled life. And this is through his Word. His Word knocks at the heart and changes
hearts! Therefore, after the homily, a moment of silence allows the seed received to settle in the soul, so that intentions to heed what the
Spirit has suggested to each person may sprout. Silence after the homily. A good mo-ment of silence must be observed there, and each one should ponder what he or she has heard. After this silence, how does the Mass continue? The personal response of faith is
integrated in the Church’s Profession of Faith... We all recite the Creed in the Mass.
Recited by the entire assembly, the Symbolum manifests the common response to what is heard together from the Word of God.” There is an essential nexus between listening and faith. They are linked. Indeed...faith does not arise from hu-
man imagination, but, as Saint Paul recalls, “comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes by the preaching of
Christ” (Rom 10:17).” -Pope Francis, 2/14/2018

DISCIPLESHIP, AND EVANGELIZATION
Learning and Living the Faith __________________________________________________________________________
Q: What is vice?
A: When we talk about the “seven deadly sins”, we are not usually talking about specific sins as such, but rather about tendencies towards sin, attitudes and desires in our heart which are disordered and lead us away from love of God and our neighbor, and lead us to choose sin. When these are habitually present within us, we call them vices. Each of the seven deadly sins also engenders other, related vices. The gradual eradication of these vices from our souls is an important element of growth in the spiritual life. Remember that God does not only want to save us from the sins that we will, but also to fully redeem us, to truly make us holy, to truly make us like Him in His goodness!
As with virtue, which grows through repeated good acts, so does vice. Sin leads to more sin. This is why it is important to struggle even against seemingly “small” venial sins. Repeated sin engenders vice in our hearts, which makes it even harder to break from sin, to have the will to cooperate with God’s grace. Thus repeated sin can cloud our conscience and weaken our moral judgments– it makes it harder to see the good. The spiritual life requires a good deal of discipline, but most of all requires a close relationship with God, constantly nourished by prayer and the sacraments.
