• Supports economic development and mobility goals.• Identifies 10 BRT corridors throughout the County.• The BRT network is 80.6 miles in size and includes a

variety of BRT treatments.• Does not change current planned land use or zoning.– The Planners attempted to provide the maximum

transportation benefit within existing master plan rights-of-ways.

Other Recommendations in the Planning Board Draft

• Success must be measured by person throughput not by vehicle throughput.

• The Plan is flexible and acknowledges that detailed concept studies will ultimately determine treatments, station locations and links to other transit services.

• Improvement of existing bicycle and pedestrian facilities near all BRT stations.

• Enhanced MARC commuter train services.

Current RTS Funding

• To date, MCDOT has dedicated $11 million for BRT corridor studies on Veirs Mill & Georgia Ave.

• MDOT is providing $10M to advance BRT concept planning in Montgomery County.

• MCDOT anticipates programming the State’s $10M for RTS concept planning for MD 355 South, US 29 and Randolph Road Corridors

Cost Estimate

• A rough cost estimate has been completed in September.• In absence of a specific design, many assumptions had to be

made.• Assumptions included; fleet requirements, right-of-way needs

and costs, utility relocation, bus garages, road and bridge work, etc.

• Due to the many assumptions, the cost estimate for each corridor reflects a contingency of 50 percent to account for changes likely to occur as projects are developed.
