Michael Myers & Jason Voorhees

Out of the two most successful horror movies ever, which character scares you the most?

Michael Myers shares many of the same qualities Jason Voorhees. Both icons wear a mask and

both are rather intimidating size wise. Michael Meyers is a fictional character of the Halloween

film series. He has appeared in eight of the nine Halloween films. Jason is a fictional character of

the Friday the 13 th series. They both have appeared in several comic books and other media

forms. The comparison between the two will show that despite being mass murderers, the

similarities are few.

The childhood of these two murderers is very different. Michael grew up in a small

suburban town in Haddonfield Illinois with his family. At six years old, Michael murdered his

sister and had to be placed in a psychiatric hospital. At the age of twenty one he escaped and

returned home to Haddonfield Illinois, where he searched to find his family. He found them but

they avoided him and wanted nothing to do with him, which devastated him and then lead him to

seek revenge and start killing. Jason grew up in a small town in Crystal Lake with his mother.

Jason suffered from severe physical deformities, possible mental disabilities, and experienced a

sheltered childhood; he did not attend school which made his mother his only source of contact.

Jason attended Camp Crystal Lake where his mother worked as a cook. Unfortunately his

disturbing appearance earned him ridicule from other children. In an effort to escape their taunts,

Jason ran down the pier and fell into Crystal Lake where he disappeared and was never found.

His mother had been attacked by a woman who brutally murdered her with a machete; Jason

came returned out of nowhere and murdered his mothers killer with the same machete used to

kill her, which led to his killings.

Michael and Jason have specific areas where they kill. Michael kills in Haddonfield

Illinois for revenge for his family betraying him. Jason kills at Camp Crystal Lake for the

revenge of his beloved mother. Jason and Michael kill their prey in different ways. Michael has

a very intelligent way of murdering. He plans his kills as he sets traps, stalks his prey, and will

kill anyone or anything that gets in his way with a butcher knife. Jason hunts his prey in

animalistic ways, and chops his victims into pieces with his machete.

Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees each have an almost super human ability to keep on

killing and show up almost anywhere, sometimes seemingly out of nowhere. Michael possessed

superhuman strength, endurance, and durability of an unknown limit. He shown the ability to lift

extremely heavy objects and survive being shot at multiple times, deep stab wounds, high

voltage electrocution and severe third degree burns over most of his body. It is still unknown if

Michael actually died or not. Jason cannot die becaus e hes already dead. Hes been hit with

everything imaginable, electrocuted, burned, drowned, blown up, and shot. He keeps

decapitating people with his machete.

The design between the two characters show contrast with a minimal similarity. Michael

and Jason wear masks; each mask shows differences. Michael wears a full white mask were it

covers his entire head and has brown hair. His brown eyes glare thru the opening in the masks

around his eyes. Michael also wears a mechanic looking blue body suit and carries a butcher

knife. Jason wears a white hockey mask with blood smears which does not cover his entire head.

Jason wears a dark jacket with a dark undershirt that appears to be ripped and worn out.

After comparing the two murderers, it is easy to see the differences along with the

similarities of the two. Each had different reasons for the kills, ways they killed and different

looks to each of them. Michael and Jason are most likely to be heard about around October when

the Halloween season begins. Their series of movies Friday the 13 th and Halloween are old

horror movies from the 1980s. If Michael Meyers or Jason Voorhees was after you, who would

you feel more threatened by?
