As we celebrate today the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi), we remember the many processions with the Blessed Sacrament through our neighborhood or city. When we have a procession, in some way we take Jesus where we are, to our streets and homes, to remind ourselves that He is always there. He sees us and accompanies us every day. A procession is also an opportunity for us to go out and share our faith with others.

CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION

On Sunday, June 23rd, immediately following the 1:30 PM Mass, please join us as we process around our parish grounds honoring our Lord Jesus in the Eucharist. It is a great opportunity to mani-fest our faith in Jesus Christ and our belief in the real presence of our Lord in the sacrament of the Eucharist.

"My flesh is true food and my blood is true drink." (J 6:55)

Jesus first came down to earth from heaven, lived for 33 years and taught about the kingdom of God, and just before his crucifixion and death, he left us the Blessed Sacrament in his testament. And when he rose from the dead and ascended to heaven, at the same time He remained with us, on earth - with Body and Soul: in the form of bread and wine. Do we really believe in this? No one is free from the lack of faith or momentary doubt. This is con-firmed by the miracle in Macerata, Italy. On the morning of April 15, 1356, a priest celebrated Holy Mass in a Benedictine church. During the consecration he fell into a brief moment of doubt in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, when suddenly in the breaking of the Bread, blood began to flow from the Host. His hands trembled and drops of blood fell onto the corporal under the chalice. After the Mass concluded, the priest hurried to his local bishop, who ordered the blood-stained corporal to undergo a ca-nonical investigation at the cathedral. This miracle was compared to the famous miracle in Bolsena in 1236, which gave birth to the feast of Corpus Christi. The commission confirmed the authenticity of the miracle and the blood-stained corporal was exposed for public adoration. The bloody stains clearly visible on the corporals are considered to be the Holy Blood of the Savior. The reliquary containing this valuable treasure survived the stormy turns of fate and its content is still venerated in the chapel of the Macerata Cathedral - especially during the octave of Corpus Christi.

Comieron todos y se saciaron. La multitud sigue sin descan-

sar a Jesús, comienzan a sentir hambre y surge una necesidad: buscar alimento. Los discípulos aconsejan a Jesús que despida a la multitud porque no se solidarizan con las personas. Creen que cada uno ha de ocuparse de su sustento. Sin embargo, Jesús les invita a practicar la solidaridad remediando el hambre, pero ellos no entienden su propuesta: “dadle vosotros de comer”. El milagro que Jesús muestra a sus discípulos es el de la solidaridad. Los panes y los peces, que son «dones de Dios», deben ser comparti-dos con los que sienten la necesidad de alimentarse. Este relato nos recuerda el pasado y se abre al futuro. Enlaza con el pasado porque hace referencia al «maná», el pan del cielo que recibía el pueblo de Dios cuando peregrinaban por el desierto hacia la tierra prometida. También quiere ser enseñanza para las primeras co-munidades en las que ya se celebraba la Eucaristía. La fiesta del Cuerpo y la Sangre del Señor no debe centrarse exclusivamente en la contemplación del misterio de la presencia de Jesús en el pan y en el vino. La celebración de la eucaristía nos refuerza la fraternidad y el compromiso social. Y a su vez, nos interpela sobre el hambre y la miseria que viven muchas personas a causa del egoísmo de unos pocos. Cada ser humano es mi hermano.
