TAREA 1 HABLAR

Talk about alternative medicine

Suggestions:

• Your personal experience, if any

• Whether you think it can be useful and what for

• If you think it can be harmful

• How it compares with conventional medicine for different types of illnesses

• Is it more or less effective in preventing illness than conventional medicine?

TAREA 2 CONVERSAR

Student A: You are a doctor whose patient has a serious illness and you try to persuade

your patient that it is not a good idea to go to see someone who promises to cure him or

her using alternative medicine.

Student B: You are ill and have been for some time, you tell your doctor that you are

thinking of going to see someone who cures people using alternative medicine.

Give your opinion on the following statement: “The state (or local authority) has the duty to protect citizens from their own harmful

behaviour, as the state knows best what constitutes harmful behaviour.

(non-smoking laws, driving laws, drinking laws, parenting, schooling, etc.)

TAREA 2 CONVERSAR

You and your partner work in the local government social policies department

and you are worried about the recent increase in drug and alcohol related

crime amongst young people in your town. Talk together to try to agree on

new proposals to improve this situation, including new laws if necessary.

Discuss the kinds of electronic equipment you use in your country. What

kinds of machine are used for housework? What kind of equipment is used

in offices? What gadgets do we carry around? Is new technology always

beneficial?

Talk about where you consider your roots to be and describe the part of your

country where you come from.

Discuss what people from different regions in your country think of each

other. Are there any prejudices? Why do you think they exist?

Talk about money and happiness from your own experience.

• Can we have too much money?

• Do money and material possessions rule our lives?

• What does spending money on others do for us?

TAREA 2 CONVERSAR

You and your partner, who have been together for many years, have

just inherited €40,000 from a relative who has recently died.

Decide together what to do with the money.

Suggestions:

• Do you agree? Does this apply to you or the people you know?

• If you think this is true, what could be the possible cause/s?

• How could this change? What will happen to the community in the future?

You and your partner work in the local government planning committee in

charge of increasing community spirit in your town. Try to decide together

on a plan of action to get people involved in their local community.

You have to decide how your City Council is going to spend some European funds

on solving the most important problem in your city. You have to agree on the

problem and on three measures to solve it.

Talk about a party that you (did not) enjoyed.

• who organised it and why

• where

• what the guests did

TAREA 2 CONVERSAR

Discuss the main reasons why people organise parties in your country. Do

people spend a lot of money? Are there differences between parties given

by friends and by family? Are there generational differences?
