From the Pastor / Del Párroco

Queridos Feligreses,

Puede ser difícil encontrar un equilibrio en la bifur-

cación: predicar una homilía basada en las Escritu-

ras al tiempo que habla de las realidades de nues-

tros días. La gente dice que quiere homilías que

sean pertinentes a los problemas de nuestros días y

que sean espirituales. Inevitablemente, algún senti-

do de "política" se convertirá en parte de la ecua-

ción. Las homilías no son necesariamente sobre dar

una dirección segura y cierta, sino sobre la pregun-

ta, "¿a dónde debemos ir?" Como la relación entre

una congregación parroquial es más de una homilía

dominical, el "oyente" de la homilía debe ponerse de

pie una homilía particular en el contexto de todo el

depósito de homilías que el sacerdote está predi-

cando. Todo esto es para responder a aquellos que

encuentran una homilía problemática o difícil de

escuchar o con la que no están de acuerdo. Esta

bien. Yo acepto esto. Pero debo predicar lo que creo

que Dios me está llamando a predicar. Puede que

no lo haya dicho correctamente o que tenga todas

las respuestas. Predico sobre los problemas tal co-

mo los entiendo. Teólogo P. Karl Rahner dijo una

vez en una entrevista: "Rezo para que la gente no

escuche tanto lo que estoy diciendo, sino lo que es-

toy tratando de decir". Es mi deseo predicar el Evan-

gelio de una manera que, a veces, desafía y pregun-

ta preguntas sobre el status, y en otros momentos,

para ofrecer consuelo y comodidad.

Estoy agradecido a todos los que están participando

en los ejercicios espirituales de Cuaresma. El vier-

nes pasado tuvimos una gran asistencia. Todos es-

tán invitados a unirse a nosotros cualquier viernes.

Estoy agradecido por los esfuerzos de las mujeres

que dirigieron el retiro #17 de Cristo Renueva Su

Parroquia el fin de semana pasado y por los hom-

bres que lideran el retiro #19 este fin de semana.

Gracias a todos los líderes de retiros, miembros del

equipo, cocineros, organizadores y participantes

que hacen CRSP. Este retiro toca a las personas de

una manera muy profunda y ciertamente renueva y

fortalece nuestra parroquia.

Dear Parishioners,

It can be difficult to find a balance in branching: to

preach a scriptural based homily while also

speaking of the realities of our day. People say

they want homilies that are pertinent to the issues

of our day and that are spiritual. Inevitably, some

sense of “politics” will become part of the equa-

tion. Homilies are not necessarily about giving a

sure and certain direction, but about asking the

question, “where should we be going?” As the

relationship between a parish congregation is

more than one Sunday homily, the “hearer” of the

homily should put one particular homily in context

of the entire deposit of homilies the priest is

preaching. All of this is to respond to those who

find a homily troublesome or hard to hear or with

which you disagree. That’s okay. I accept

that. But I must preach what I believe that God is

calling me to preach. I may not have said it cor-

rectly or have all of the answers. I preach about

issues as I understand them. Theologian Fr. Karl

Rahner once said in an interview, “I pray that peo-

ple hear not so much what I am saying, but what I

am trying to say.” It is my desire to preach the

Gospel in a way that, at times, challenges and

asks questions about the status quo, and at other

times, to offer comfort and consolation.

I am thankful to all who are participating in the

Lenten spiritual exercises. Last Friday we had a

great turn out. All are invited to join us any Fri-

day.

I am thankful for the efforts of the women who

lead the 17th Christ Renews His Parish retreat last

week-end and for the men who lead the 19th re-

treat this week-end. Thanks to all of the retreat

leaders, team members, cooks, organizers, and

participants who make CRHP happen. This re-

treat touches people in a very profound way and it

certainly renews and strengthens our parish.

Archbishop Thompson to address Catholic Business Exchange

The Most Reverend Charles C. Thomp-son, Archbishop of Indianapolis, will speak at the March Catholic Business Exchange.

The event is Friday morning, March 16, at the North Side Knights of Columbus. Mass starts at 7am and the program will be finished by 9am. Cost for the program includes a great breakfast and is $15 in ad-vance for members and $21 for non-members. Regis-tration is required.
