From the Pastor / Del Párroco

Queridos feligreses,

La semana pasada, con la celebración de la Epi-

fanía y la emigración de la sagrada familia a Egipto,

la Iglesia Católica conmemoró la semana de la in-

migración. Esta observación es hacer conscientes

a todos los pueblos del sufrimiento experimentado

por tantos en nuestro mundo. En esta misma

semana, nuestro Presidente hizo su llamamiento

más fuerte para el muro fronterizo. En respuesta a

esto, el Cardenal Tobin dijo:

“Escuché con profunda decepción las palabras

deshumanizadoras utilizadas para describir a nues-

tras hermanas y hermanos inmigrantes. Estos hom-

bres, mujeres y niños no son números ni es-

tadísticas criminales, sino gente de carne y hueso

con sus propias historias. La mayoría está huyendo

de la miseria humana y la violencia brutal que ame-

naza sus vidas. Las caricaturas falsas y llenas de

miedo buscan provocar una especie de amnesia

que tendría esta gran nación negar nuestras raíces

en los inmigrantes y refugiados.”

El pasado junio, el Papa Francisco dijo en un discur-

so en una conferencia sobre la migración internac-

ional: "debemos pasar de considerar a los demás

como amenazas a nuestro consuelo para valorarlos

como personas cuya experiencia y valores de vida

pueden contribuir enormemente al enriquecimiento

de nuestra sociedad". Aquellos que llegan a nues-

tras fronteras buscando asilo o escapando de la

pobreza aplastante no son peones en un debate

político, sino más bien los extraños y los alienígenas

que nuestras escrituras nos instruyen constante-

mente para recibir.

Este fin de semana 15 jóvenes y adultos de nuestra

parroquia van a ir a Washington, D.C., la capital de

nuestra nación, para ser una voz para los no naci-

dos. Por favor, esten en solidardad con ellos en

sus oraciones.

Voy a ir a Panamá esta semana con otros seis

jóvenes adultos para vivir la Jornada Mundial de la

Juventud, con el Papa Francisco. Por favor, man-

ténlos a estos jóvenes en sus oraciones por esta

increíble experiencia. Yo regreso el 2 de Febrero.

Por último, felicitamos a Magali González, quien ha com-

pletado un curso de 3 años de estudios, a través de la Ar-

quidiócesis de Indianápolis, para servir como "director espir-

itual" para nuestra comunidad Latina. Magali esta dis-

ponible para acompañar a los feligreses de nuestra par-

roquia en su jornada de la vida.

Dear Parishioners,

As I shared last week-end, with celebration of the

Epiphany and the Holy Family’s migration into

Egypt, the Catholic Church and the world com-

memorated National Immigration week. This ob-

servation is to make all peoples aware of the un-

told suffering experienced by so many in our

world. In this same week, our president made his

strongest appeal for the border wall. In response

to this, Cardinal Tobin said:

I listened with deep disappointment to the dehu-

manizing words used to describe our immigrant

sisters and brothers. These men, women and chil-

dren are neither numbers, nor criminal statistics,

but flesh and blood people with their own stories

and histories. Most are fleeing human misery and

brutal violence that threatens their lives. False

and fear-filled caricatures seek to provoke a sort

of amnesia that would have this great nation deny

our roots in immigrants and refugees.

Last June, Pope Francis said in an address at a

conference on international migration: “We must

move from considering others as threats to our

comfort to valuing them as persons whose life ex-

perience and values can contribute greatly to the

enrichment of our society.” Those coming to our

borders seeking asylum or escaping crushing pov-

erty are not pawns in a political debate, but rather

the strangers and aliens our Scriptures constantly

instruct us to welcome.

This week-end 15 youth and adults from our par-

ish will be going to Washington, D.C., our nation’s

capital, to be a voice for the unborn. Please be in

solidarity with them in your prayers.

I will be going to Panama this week with six other

young adults to experience World Youth Day with

Pope Francis. Please keep these young people in

your prayers for this incredible experience. I will

be returning February 2.

Finally, we congratulate Magali Gonzalez, who has

completed a 3 year course of studies, through the

Archdiocese of Indianapolis, to serve as a

“Spiritual Director” for our Latino Communi-

ty. Know of Magali’s availability to accompany

parishioners in their life journey.

On Saturday, March 2, 2019, St. Gabriel will hold it’s annual Mardi Gras Reverse Raffle in the St. Ga-briel cafeteria. Costs of the ticket is $25.00, which includes dinner for two plus the raffle ticket. The first prize is $2000.00, second prize is $300.00, and third prize is $200.00. Cocktails are at 5:00PM, dinner is at 6:00PM, and gaming is at 7:00PM. Proceeds go to improvement of the St. Gabri-el cafeteria. Please contact any Men’s Club member, the Hispanic K of C member, or the parish office to pur-chase tickets.

Janitor Position Responsible for the weekly cleaning of the church, restrooms, hall, kitchen and parish offices. Part-time position – 24 hours per week. The scheduled hours can be established either daytime or evening to accommodate family obligations. Must be able to lift heavy cleaning equip-ment, work well independently and meet the hiring requirements of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Reports to Keith Caine, Maintenance Supervisor. There is no cost to families to have their pictures taken for the directory. Plus families receive a free 8X10. The only expense is if you choose to purchase additional pictures.
