LA MOJANA:RIQUEZA NATURAL Y POTENCIAL ECONOMICOa Mojana es una subregión ubicada en la parte norte de Colombia, caracterizadapor ser una zona de humedales productivos, perteneciente a la DepresiónMomposina, con la función ambiental de regular los cauces de los ríos Magdalena,Cauca y San Jorge, amortiguar las inundaciones y facilitar la decantación yacumulación de sus sedimentos. La dinámica de sus aguas y la biodiversidad delas especies de fauna y flora, que ahí encuentran su hábitat, proveen seguridadalimenticia y generan ingresos a sus pobladores. El objetivo de este estudio escontribuir al conocimiento de los aspectos económicos, ambientales, sociales, eidentificar el potencial económico que le permita un desarrollo sostenible. Losresultados del estudio indican que La Mojana tiene limitantes en el uso de sustierras por los riesgos ambientales y la función natural que desempeña. Supoblación presenta altos índices de pobreza y alta dependencia de la explotaciónde los recursos naturales del suelo y el agua. Sin embargo, posee una ofertaambiental que al desarrollarla en forma integral y planificada puede potenciar eldesarrollo económico, social y cultural de la región.
