CUARTO CONCURSO LATINOAMERICANO Y CARIBEÑO DE NOVELA

ALBA NARRATIVA 2013, PARA AUTORES MENORES DE 40 AÑOS.

CONVOCATORIA

El Fondo Cultural del ALBA, a través del Centro Cultural Dulce María Loynaz de La

Habana, convoca al Cuarto Concurso Latinoamericano y Caribeño de Novela ALBA

NARRATIVA 2013 para autores menores de 40 años, con el propósito de estimular y

promover a los jóvenes novelistas que escriben con una mirada propia y renovadora en

los países de Nuestra América. El Cuarto Concurso Latinoamericano y Caribeño de

Novela ALBA NARRATIVA 2013 se regirá por las siguientes:

BASES

1. Podrán concursar autores de cualquiera de los países de América Latina y el Caribe,

independientemente de su lugar de residencia, con obras originales e inéditas,

cuyos derechos de publicación no estén comprometidos con ninguna editorial,

agente literario o cualquier otra forma de relación jurídica, y que no estén

concursando simultáneamente en otro premio.

2. Las novelas, escritas en español o inglés, de cualquier tendencia estética y tema

libre, deberán tener un mínimo de 120 páginas (180 000 caracteres) y un máximo

de 400 páginas (600 000 caracteres), presentarse por duplicado, bajo el sistema de

plica, y acompañarse de una copia en soporte digital.

3. Se adjuntará en el mismo envío un sobre cerrado, que contendrá en su interior el

nombre, la fotocopia del documento de identidad o acreditativo de la nacionalidad,

la dirección postal, el teléfono, y la dirección electrónica del autor, así como un

breve currículo. En el exterior del sobre se consignará el título de la obra y el

seudónimo del autor.

4. No se aceptarán originales ilegibles, mal encuadernados, o que no se ajusten a

cualquiera de las bases. Los organizadores crearán un Comité de Admisión cuya

función será garantizar el cumplimiento de estos requisitos.

5. Los trabajos podrán enviarse por correo postal o entregarse personalmente en la

sede de la institución, destacando que participan en el Cuarto Concurso

Latinoamericano y Caribeño de Novela ALBA NARRATIVA 2013.

26. Se aceptarán envíos por correo electrónico que se ajusten a las bases y sean

realizados en formato Word, letra Times New Roman, 12 puntos, a espacio y medio,

antes de la fecha límite, a las siguientes direcciones electrónicas

[email protected] o [email protected] lo que será confirmado

mediante respuesta de recepción del envío. Se deberán adjuntar en un mismo envío

dos documentos: uno con la novela que se presenta a concurso y otro que contenga

los datos del autor solicitados en la base 3.

7. El plazo de admisión de originales finalizará el 7 de octubre de 2012. Solo se

aceptarán los envíos que, con fecha postal dentro del término de la convocatoria,

lleguen antes del comienzo de los trabajos del Jurado.

8. El Premio Latinoamericano y Caribeño de Novela ALBA NARRATIVA 2013, en cada

uno de los idiomas convocados, consistirá en diploma acreditativo, diez mil dólares

(10.000.00 USD) o su equivalente en la moneda del país del autor premiado y la

publicación de los libros ganadores. Se otorgará un accésit en idioma español

consistente en cinco mil dólares (5.000.00 USD) o su equivalente en la moneda del

país del autor premiado y la publicación del libro ganador.

9. La retribución monetaria de los premios cubre el pago de los derechos de autor

para una primera edición de hasta 10 000 ejemplares, realizada por el FONDO

CULTURAL DEL ALBA, que podrá incluir una traducción al otro idioma en que se

convoca el Premio o a cualquier lengua de América que el FCA considere oportuno.

Cualquier edición posterior deberá hacer constar que la obra obtuvo el

reconocimiento del Premio ALBA NARRATIVA 2013.

10. El Jurado estará integrado por narradores latinoamericanos y caribeños de

reconocido prestigio en número impar. Su veredicto será inapelable.

11. Las sesiones finales del trabajo del Jurado formarán parte del programa de

actividades de la XXII Feria Internacional del Libro, La Habana 2013, que se

realizará entre el 14 y el 24 de febrero de ese año, donde se darán a conocer los

veredictos.

12. El premio podrá ser declarado desierto por el Jurado en uno o en ambos idiomas si,

a su juicio, no hay obras con calidad suficiente para obtenerlo(s), pero no podrá

dividirlos. También podrá destacar como finalistas otras novelas que a su juicio

merezcan reconocimiento, sin que implique un compromiso editorial para el FCA.

13. No se mantendrá correspondencia acerca de los originales presentados y los

mismos no serán devueltos a sus autores.

14. La participación en el Concurso Latinoamericano de Novela ALBA NARRATIVA 2013

implica la aceptación de estas Bases. Su interpretación o cualquier aspecto no

previsto corresponde sólo al jurado y, en última instancia, a los organizadores.

FOURTH NOVEL CONTEST FOR LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN

ALBA NARRATIVA 2013, FOR AUTHORS UNDER 40 YEARS OLD

The ALBA Funds for Culture, through the Dulce María Loynaz Cultural Center in Havana,

announce the Fourth Novel Contest for Latin America and the Caribbean ALBA

NARRATIVA 2013, with the aim of encouraging and promoting young novelists who write

with a renewing, Latin American and Caribbean view in the countries of Our America. The

Fourth Novel Contest for Latin America and the Caribbean ALBA NARRATIVA 2013 will

develop in accordance with the following

RULES

1. The Contest is open to authors under 40 years old, born in any country in Latin

America and the Caribbean, regardless of their place of residence, with original

and unpublished novels which are not under contract with a publisher, literary

agent or any other form of legal binding and which are not simultaneously

participating in another contest.

2. Manuscripts must be written in English or Spanish languages and should be novels

reflecting any aesthetic tendency and theme, between 120 pages (180,000

characters) and 400 pages (600,000 characters). Two printed copies and a digital

copy of the manuscript, identified with the entrant's pseudonym, should be sent.

3. A closed envelope will be included, containing the name of the entrant, a

photocopy of the identification document affirming his/her nationality, as well as

the address, email address and telephone number of the entrant and the entrant's

previous writing credits. The title of the novel and the entrant's pseudonym will be

written on the envelope.

4. Ilegible, unbound manuscripts or those which fail to comply with any of the rules

herein stated will not be eligible to enter the Contest. The organizers will create an

Admission Committee to guarantee the fulfillment of these requirements.

5. Manuscripts should be sent via the postal service or delivered personally to the

institution in Havana, declaring the intention to participate in the Fourth Novel

Contest for Latin America and the Caribbean ALBA NARRATIVA 2013.

56. Manuscripts sent via email will be accepted if they comply with the rules herein

stated. Manuscripts submitted digitally must be in Microsoft Word format, typed in

Times New Roman font size 12, with 1.5 spaces between lines, and should be sent

to [email protected] or [email protected] before the deadline.

Two documents should be attached to the message: the novel manuscript and the

author’s personal data requested on rule 3. A message of confirmation will be sent

by the organizers to acknowledge receipt of the entrant’s manuscript.

7. The deadline for the receipt of manuscripts is October 7, 2012. Entries postmarked

no later than this date will be accepted unless they arrive after the judges have

started their evaluation.

8. The Novel Prize for Latin America and the Caribbean ALBA NARRATIVA 2013 will

consist of an accreditation certificate, plus ten thousand dollars (10.000.00 USD or

its equivalent in the local currency of the winners’ countries) and the publication of

the prize-winning book. A Prize will be given in each language. Be awarded a

second prize in the Spanish language consisting of five thousand dollars (5.000.00

USD) or its equivalent in the currency of the award-winning author and the

publication of the winning book.

9. The monetary retribution of the prizes will cover the royalties for the first edition of

up to 10.000 copies of the novel, which will be published by the ALBA Funds for

Culture and may include a translation in the other language of the Contest. Any

further edition shall declare that the novel was awarded the Novel Prize for Latin

America and the Caribbean ALBA NARRATIVA 2013.

10. An odd number of judges will be chosen among eminent Latin American and

Caribbean writers. Their decision will be final.

11.The judges will meet for their final sessions during the XXII International Book Fair

in Havana, in February 2013, and their decision will be made public as part of the

programmed activities of the Fair.

12. The judges may decide not to select a winner in either language if, in their

sole opinion, none of the manuscripts submitted are of acceptable quality.

However, the Prizes cannot be given to more than one entrant in either language.

The judges could also distinguish novels of noticeable quality among the finalists,

although the ALBA Funds for Culture will not have any obligation to publish them.

13.No critical evaluation or commentary will be offered and the manuscripts will not

be returned to the authors.

14. By entering the Fourth Novel Contest for Latin America and the Caribbean

ALBA NARRATIVA 2013, contestants must accept the rules herein stated. The

interpretation of these rules or any other aspect not considered by them will

concern only the judges and, as a last resort, the organizers.
