La nueva estrella del verano, sin embargo, es Encarnación, situada al sur del país. Pero Asunción no se queda atrás. Con la habilitación de su ansiada Costanera a finales del 2012, la Capital estrecha relaciones con el río. Paraguay is full of interesting places, but in summer the favorites are those that fuse green areas and water. One of the most traditional is San Bernardino, which renews its charm every year and attracts thousands of visitors.

The new star of the summer however, is Encarnación, located to the south of the country. But Asunción is not far behind. C uando el sol se va ocultando al atardecer y el calor se hace menos inclemente, personas de

todas las edades llegan hasta la avenida Costanera. A muchos aún les cuesta creer que este proyecto esperado durante años es una realidad que va tomando forma. Familias enteras y personas en particular, ya sea en coche, bicicletas, rollers o patines toman el espacio público y de esa manera hacen posible el reencuentro de la capital del país con ese río al cual le ha dado la espalda durante décadas.

La construcción de la Costanera Norte inició en julio del 2010 y se habilitó parcialmente el 15 de diciembre del 2012. Se extiende a lo largo de 3.8 kilómetros, partiendo desde la avenida General Santos hasta la conexión con el puerto Asunción, entre Colón y Montevideo. Cuando finalicen los trabajos de la primera etapa contará con 13 hectáreas de parque, una caminera, bicisendas, veredas, cámaras de seguridad, sanitarios, entre otros atractivos.

Además de espacios de dispersión, la Costanera cuenta con cuatro carriles para la circulación de vehículos, lo cual se da de manera temporal y hasta cierto tramo por el momento. El emprendimiento tiene como fin ser una vía de tránsito en la Capital para descongestionar el colapsado tráfico en las calles. A más de dotarla de la infraestructura necesaria, las entidades encargadas organizarán actividades recreativas y deportivas,

Avenida Costanera. Many still find it hard to believe that this long-awaited project has finally become a reality that is beginning to take shape. Entire families and curious individuals come by car, bicycle, roller skates and skate boards to this public space, thus reconnecting the capital city to the river it has turned its back on for decades.

The construction of the Costanera Norte began in July 2010 and was partially opened on December 15, 2012. It stretches over 3.8 kilometers, from Avenida General Santos to the intersection of Colón and Montevideo, where the port of Asunción is located. Upon completion of the first phase it will include 13 acres of park, a walkway, bike paths, sidewalks, security cameras and rest rooms as well as other attractions.

As well as open spaces, the avenue has four lanes for vehicles, which are currently open on a temporary basis and only in certain sections. The venture is intended to be a thoroughfare to decongest traffic in the capital. In addition to providing the necessary infrastructure, the entities in charge will organize recreational and sporting events, with more attractions to come. The first phase required an investment of $21 million, and another $5.5 million is needed to finish it.

Over the years, a series of events anticipated this work. The various

A lo largo de los años hubo antecedentes que anticiparon esta obra. Las diferentes administraciones, tanto del ejecutivo como municipales, construyeron murallones que intentaban detener las erosiones que causaban las grandes lluvias en la capital. Parte de estos murallones se pueden apreciar en la parte trasera del Cabildo. Durante las décadas del 70 y 80 la parte baja de la plaza de Armas era un sitio utilizado como paseo costero, con comercios que expedían comidas y bebidas, e incluso sobre la calle 14 de Mayo y playa, existía el parque de diversiones Victoria, que contaba con un gigantesco tobogán.

Más cerca en el tiempo, la decisión de llevar adelante la obra se formalizó en 1993 durante la administración del intendente Carlos Filizzola. Entre los años 1996 y 2006 ya se contaba con fondos del exterior para concretarla, pero debido a diferencias políticas la construcción no se pudo llevar a cabo. La segunda etapa de la actual obra (ya en etapa de licitación) irá desde General Santos hasta el Jardín Botánico, abarcando 11 kilómetros. La Costanera Sur, de unos 9 kilómetros, se extenderá desde la calle Colón, atravesará el Bañado Norte para empalmar con la avenida Cacique Lambaré, culminando así la tercera etapa.

Closer in time, the decision to carry out the work was formalized in 1993 during the administration of the mayor, Carlos Filizzola. Between 1996 and 2006, funds had already been collected from abroad, but due to political differences the construction could not be carried out. The second stage of the present work (in the public tender stage) will go from General Santos to the Botanical Gardens, covering 11 kilometers. supongo que todo nace ahí», imagina Regina Rivas, una

ilustradora de estilo pop, que sazona líneas simples con dosis de humor.

Hace algunos que años que, como poca gente en el mundo, Regina vive de lo que ama. «Las cosas se fueron dando. Empecé trabajando con tela y serigrafía. De a poco fui dibujando más hasta que es un día me di cuenta de que el dibujo se convirtió en mi trabajo principal… Y trabajar de eso que más te gusta hacer, realmente es un placer», dice con grata certeza.

Sus dibujos ornamentan desde piezas de cerámica (como tazas y planteras), hasta accesorios personales (como collares y prendedores). Pero además lleva adelante el proyecto editorial Elvira, un fanzine de ilustración que desarrolla junto a Leda Sostoa, Adriana Peralta y Amelí Schneider.

Retomar la estampación y la serigrafía forman parte de su lista de propósitos para el 2013, un año en el que planea dibujar, dibujar y dibujar.

Doing printing and screen printing again are part of her list of resolutions for 2013, a year in which she plans to draw and draw and draw.

«Sombrío» es un conjunto de argumentos construidos por el

artista Arnaldo Cristaldo, a partir del bordado manual sobre Ao po'i. Cada

hilo tejido traza un fragmento que detona realidades segmentadas. Una

de ellas está centrada en un análisis sobre las identidades nacionales.

La obra que da nombre a la muestra surge en torno a hechos acaecidos

en el año 2012, acontecimientos que sellaron un curso en la construcción

de la historia del país, los cuales resultan perturbadores y oscuros.

"Sombrío" is a set of arguments by the artist Arnaldo Cristaldo,

based on the manual embroidery, Ao po'i. Each woven thread traces a fragment that triggers segmented

realities. One is focused on an analysis of national identities.

The play that gives this exhibition its name is based on events

that occurred in 2012, dark and disturbing events that sealed a

place in the country's history.

Los lunes, miércoles y viernes a partir de las 20:00, los miembros de Bicicentro se juntan frente al Panteón Nacional de los Héroes (Palma y Chile), desde donde inician un entretenido viaje por calles céntricas. Está situado en la Casa Viola, una de las nueve casas que conforman el Centro Cultural de la Ciudad Manzana de la Rivera. Exhibe elementos que reconstruyen parte de la historia de Asunción, como objetos arqueológicos, pinturas, elementos ornamentales y una serie de muebles. Alberga además libros y documentos históricos como mapas y cartas.

Este espacio cultural dependiente de la Embajada de España en Paraguay, está abierto a la difusión de las nuevas tendencias estéticas, así como de grupos y artistas emergentes. En su programación mensual se destacan las actividades formativas, exposiciones, espectáculos escénicos, conciertos, cine y seminarios.

Located in Casa Viola, it is one of the nine houses that make up the Cultural Center of the City Manzana de la Rivera. It exhibits articles that reconstruct part of the history of Asuncion, such as archeological objects, paintings, ornamental objects and a selection of furniture. It also houses historic books and documents such as maps and letters.

The aim of this cultural center, run by the Embassy of Spain in Paraguay, is to promote new esthetic trends as well as emerging bands and artists. The highlights of their monthly program are the educational activities, exhibitions, stage shows, concerts, cinema and seminars.

El Centro de Artes Visuales alberga al Museo del Barro, con más de 4.000 piezas correspondientes a producciones mestizas, desde el siglo XVII en adelante. Allí también se encuentra el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MPAC), con una colección permanente de pintura, dibujo, grabado, instalación, objeto y escultura actual del Paraguay; y el Museo de Arte Indígena (MAI), con más de 1750 piezas.

The only cultural center in Villa Morra, considered the new financial and economic hub of the capital. It features paintings, etchings, drawings, photographs, ceramics, sculptures, theater and music. Around fifty cultural activities take place every year and it receives an average of 4,000 visitors.

The Center of Visual Arts houses the Earthenware Museum, with over 4,000 pieces corresponding to mestizo creations, from the 17th century onwards. The former home of the City Council and National Parliament is now a museum. There are permanent displays of contemporary art, featherwork and photography. Its temporary exhibition halls, auditoriums and library, host cultural projects and programs which highlight the creations of national and international contemporary artists.

La colección del Palacio está determinada por la secuencia cronológica de las formas de Gobierno que consolidaron la Independencia del Paraguay, desde 1811 al 2011. Debido a su condición de sede presidencial, tiene estrictas medidas de seguridad y está prohibido el ingreso con cámaras fotográficas o filmadoras.

Creado en 1985, alberga alrededor de 1.300 objetos históricos. Parte de su acervo tiene origen en la colección personal de Juan Sinforiano Bogarín, el primer arzobispo del Paraguay. El mismo inició esta colección recogiendo documentos históricos, a los que luego se fueron agregando otros objetos cedidos o donados.

The Palace collection is determined by the chronological sequence of the forms of Government that consolidated the Independence of Paraguay from 1811 to 2011. Due to its role as the Presidential Palace, strict security measures are in place, and it is forbidden to enter with cameras or video cameras.

Created in 1985, it houses around 1,300 historic objects. Parto of its heritage comes from the personal collection of Juan Sinforiano Bogarín, the first archbishop of Paraguay. He started the collection himself, gathering historical documents to which other loaned or donated documents and objects were later added.

Conserva invaluables piezas del arte universal del siglo XVII y comienzo del XX, además de arte paraguayo del siglo XIX y mediados del XX. Entre los objetos que guarda se encuentran monedas antiguas, muebles y variados objetos que pertenecieron a su creador, Juan Silvano Godoy.

Se encuentra en la colina más elevada del barrio Trinidad, de frente a la que fuera vivienda del primer Presidente Constitucional del Paraguay, Don Carlos Antonio López. En su interior se conservan retablos del periodo franciscano e imágenes de tamaño natural, que adquieren gran expresividad durante las fiestas de Semana Santa.

It houses invaluable pieces of art from the 17th century and beginnings of the 20th century, as well as Paraguayan art from the 19th and 20th centuries. Among the objects are antique coins, furniture and various objects that belonged to the creator, Juan Silvano Godoy.

Located on the tallest hill of the Trinidad neighborhood, opposite what was once the home of the first Constitutional President of Paraguay, Don Carlos Antonio López. Exhibited within are the altarpieces from the franciscan period and life-sized images, which acquire great expressiveness during the Holy Week festivities.

Es un sitio de referencia en el circuito histórico asunceno y nacional, debido a que los principales protagonistas de la independencia del Paraguay (1811), usaron esta casa como sede de sus reuniones secretas. En ella se atesoran documentos y objetos históricos, además de mobiliarios, indumentaria, pinturas, retratos, y varios utensilios de la época.

La construcción de este templo de estilo romano se inició en 1893 y estuvo a cargo del arquitecto italiano Juan Colombo. Declarado Monumento Histórico Nacional, también se convirtió en hospital de sangre durante la Guerra del Chaco (1932-1935). Además de su peculiar estilo arquitectónico, es la única iglesia del país que cuenta con un órgano de tubos.

A cornerstone of the historical circuit around Asuncion and Paraguay, as the protagonists of the independence of Paraguay (1811) used the house as the venue of their secret meetings. Exhibited within are historical objects and documents, as well as furniture, clothing, paintings, portraits and various utensils from the era.

The construction of this roman style temple began in 1893 and was under the charge of Juan Colombo. Declared a National Historic Monument, it was also used as a field hospital during the Chaco War (1932-1935). Apart from its unusual architectural style, it is the only church in Paraguay with a pipe organ.

Cuenta con una vasta colección de objetos testimoniales de la Guerra contra la Triple Alianza (1864- 1870), entre ellos el mural de Holden Jara titulado Camino a Cerro Corá, la mesa de composición de periódicos que se editaron durante la contienda, así como los objetos personales del General José Eduvigis Díaz.

Además de documentación sobre la fauna y la flora nacional, posee colecciones científicas dividas en ejemplares en seco (animales y plantas, organismos enteros o partes, nidos, huesos y dientes; conchas de invertebrados y otros exoesqueletos), y en líquido (animales y plantas, preparaciones histológicas, piedras, fósiles y minerales).

It holds a vast collection of testimonial objects from the War of the Triple Alliance (1864-1870), among them the mural of Holden Jara titled Camino a Cerro Corá (The way to Cerro Corá), the composition desk used by the newspapers that were edited during the war, as well as personal objects belonging to General José Eduvigis Díaz.

Fundado por el Dr. Carlos Fiebrig y Ana Gertz, su esposa, el museo conserva y exhibe una gran variedad de especies nativas y en extinción. Guarda además una serie de artículos indígenas pertenecientes a las diferentes familias lingüísticas de Paraguay. Previa solicitud, se realizan visitas grupales guiadas.

Su fundación se debe al gran filántropo y estudioso Dr. Andrés Barbero. Fue él quien a través de adquisiciones y donaciones, reunió la primera colección del museo, la cual con el tiempo derivó en la formación de la colección actual, conformada por piezas de las culturas de parcialidades indígenas del Paraguay.

Founded by Dr. Carlos Fiebrig and his wife Ana Gertz, the museum maintains and exhibits a variety of native species, some in danger of extinction. It also holds a selection of artifacts that belonged to the different linguistic families of Paraguay. On request, guided tours for groups can be arranged.

Founded by the great philanthropist and specialist Dr. Andrés Barbero. Through donations and acquisitions, he managed to gather the first collection of the museum, which in time became the collection it is now, consisting of the cultures of the various indigenous peoples of Paraguay.

Toda la historia del fútbol sudamericano y sus personajes está concentrada en este museo de 1.500 metros cuadrados. En dos niveles conectados por una rampa, es posible contemplar trofeos, camisetas y otros objetos históricos, y ver una película en 360 grados sobre los orígenes del futbol y su evolución en América del Sur.

Diseñado por el uruguayo Carlos Zucchi, este monumento histórico de estilo neoclásico está compuesto de tres naves divididas por una fila de arcos, además de las tres campanas que forman las torres del campanario. En 2009 fue escogida por la Organización Capital Americana de la Cultura como el cuarto tesoro del Patrimonio Cultural Material de Asunción.

The whole history of south american soccer and its characters are concentrated in this 1.5 square km museum. On two floors, connected by a ramp, the visitor has the chance to view the trophies, jerseys and other historic objects, and watch a 360 degree movie about the origins of soccer and its evolution in South America.

Designed by the Uruguayan Carlos Zucchi, neoclassic style historic monument is made up of three naves divided by a row of arches, as well as three bells that form the bell tower. In 2009 it was chosen as the fourth treasure of the Material Cultural heritage of Asuncion by the American Capital of Culture Organization.

La ciudad de Piribebuy (brisa suave en guaraní), se encuentra situada en el departamento de Cordillera, sobre el ramal que una la Ruta 1 y la Ruta 2. Es atravesada por arroyos con numerosas cascadas y uno de sus principales atractivos es el imponente cerro Mbatovi -de 250 metros de altura-, donde se realizan actividades de eco-aventura.

Además de frescos arroyos y exuberantes espacios verdes, Piribebuy es una interesante opción para el turismo histórico ya que durante la Guerra contra la Triple Alianza, se convirtió en la Capital de la República. Fue el Mariscal Francisco Solano López quien el 8 de diciembre de 1868, decretó el traslado de la Capital de la República a la localidad cordillerana.

Finalizada la guerra, la ciudad fue escogida sobre todo por inmigrantes italianos, quienes se asentaron en ella y ayudaron a consolidar su identidad. Las artesanías como el popular poncho de sesenta listas, constituyen el principal legado de esta comunidad.

Así mismo, en la ciudad se encuentra el Museo Histórico Comandante Pedro Pablo Caballero, que expone objetos de la Guerra contra la Triple Alianza y la Guerra del Chaco; y la Iglesia franciscana Dulce Nombre de Jesús.

The city of Piribebuy (gentle breeze in Guarani) is located in the department of Cordillera, where Ruta 1 and Ruta 2 meet. It is criss-crossed by numerous streams with beautiful waterfalls and one of its main attractions is the imposing 250m tall Mbatovi hill, where eco-adventure activities are carried out.

Besides the fresh streams and lush green areas, Piribebuy is an interesting option for historical tourism, as it became the capital of the Republic during the War of the Triple Alliance. It was Marshal Francisco Solano Lopez who, on December 8, 1868, ordered the transfer of the capital of the Republic to the village.

After the war, the city became popular with Italian immigrants who settled there and helped consolidate its identity. Handicrafts like the popular 60-striped poncho, are the main legacy of this community.

In the city you will also find the Commander Pedro Pablo Caballero Historical Museum, which exhibits objects from the War against the Triple Alliance and the Chaco War, and the Franciscan Church Holy Name of Jesus, which has pulpits, wood-carved confessionals and Solomonic-style columns.

On one side of La Rambla is the Gothic Quarter, one of the most representative of the Old City, the structure of which remained intact until the nineteenth century.

Various artistic trends are reflected in the rest of the city, one of the most prevalent is Modernism. World renowned architect Antonio Gaudi is its most faithful exponent. His legacy is visible in various parts of this great city: the stunning Sagrada Familia, the colorful Park Guell or the unique Casa Batlló.

Among the major museums in the city are the Picasso Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA) and the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC), while the best of the cuisine is found in their peculiar little markets.
