METAVERSOS :

El término metaverso viene de la novela Snow Crash publicada en 1992 por Neal Stephenson, y se

usa frecuentemente para describir la visión del trabajo en espacios 3D totalmente inmersivos

(Internet Inmersivo es un conjunto de tecnologías emergentes combinadas con una cultura social, que

colocan al usuario en el centro de un entorno virtual).

Los metaversos son entornos donde los humanos interactúan social y económicamente como iconos, a través de un soporte lógico en un ciberespacio que se actúa como una metáfora del mundo real, pero

sin las limitaciones físicas.

We found a wide range of health-related activities on Second

Life, and a diverse group of users, including organizations,

groups, and individuals. For many users, Second Life activities

are a part of their Web 2.0 communication strategy. The most

common type of health-related site in our sample (n = 68) were

those whose principle aim was patient education or to increase

awareness about health issues. The second most common type

of site were support sites, followed by training sites, and

marketing sites. Finally, a few sites were purpose-built to

conduct research in SL or to recruit participants for real-life

research.

Likert scale (1, strongly disagree to 7, strongly agree), participants’ mean reported confidence increased from pre to post SL event with respect to: selecting insulin for patients with type 2 diabetes (pre = 4.9 to post = 6.5, P= .002); initiating insulin (pre = 5.0 to post = 6.2, P= .02); and adjusting insulin dosing (pre = 5.2 to post = 6.2, P= .02).

the percent of participants providing a correct insulin initiation plan increased from 60% (6 of 10) pre to 90% (9 of 10) post (P= .2), and the percent of participants providing correct initiation of mealtime insulin increased from 40% (4 of 10) pre to 80% (8 of 10) post (P= .09).

All participants agreed that this experience in SL was an effective method CME, that the virtual world approach to CME was superior to other methods online, they would enroll in another such event, and recommend that their colleagues.

Only 17% disagreed SL method of CME is superior to face-to-face CM

This study examines students’ reactions to the virtual biosciences

laboratory developed in Second Life® (SL) at the University of East

London...in a trial of a virtual Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)

experiment in Second Life...compared during the real life (RL) practical.

Both groups showed a significant increase... no difference in gains

between the two groups was detected. However, students who

conducted the PCR experiment in SL required significantly less

demonstrator assistance during the subsequent RL practical... 92% of

participants reporting that they would like to use the system again

proficient in the analysis of MRIs, CTs and X-rays. You can join to take

part in the first medical simulation.

Heart Murmurs: a great example of educational possibilities in Second Life as you can listen to cardiac murmurs

The Gene Pool: far the best genetic educational place in Second Life. Quizes, animations and you can even wear your favourite

chromosome

Virtual Neurological Education Centre: it allows the medical field an online virtual environment for training and demonstrating a

virtual experience of a neurological disorder.

Wheelies @ Second Ability: A place for people with disability. You can even try how it is like to use a wheelchair


Medical Library at Health Info Island: you can do PubMed searches from Second Life; find people at the Medical Research Desk or at the

Consumer Health Information Desk. A growing medical virtual community!

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: according tothe National Review of Medicine, they are one of the early adopters.

They consider Second Life as an educational opportunity they just couldn’t pass up
