PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

THE TRANSFIGURATION

August 6, 2017

Celebrant:

Almighty God, before the passion of your Son, you revealed His glory upon

the holy mountain. Grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of His

countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross. Indeed, O Lord, give us

the vision to see beyond the turmoil of our world and to behold Him in all His

glory as we pray; Lord, in your Mercy, hear our prayer.

God, at the Holy Mountain we open our eyes and we see Jesus, the months of

ministry transfigured to a beam of light, the light of the world, your light. May

your light always shine upon us. Lord, in your Mercy, hear our prayer.

O God, we open our eyes and we see Moses and Elijah with Jesus, your word,

restoring us, showing us the way, telling a story, your story, his story, our sto-

ry. May your word always speak to us. Lord, in your Mercy, hear our prayer.

O God, we open our eyes and we see mist, the cloud of your presence, which

assures us of all we do not know and that we do not need to fear that. Teach us

to trust. Lord, in your Mercy, hear our prayer.

O God, we open our eyes and we see Peter's constructions, his best plans, our

best plans, our missing the point, our missing the way.... Forgive us our fool-

ishness and our sin. Lord, in your Mercy, hear our prayer.

O God, we open our eyes and we see Jesus, not casting us off, but leading us

down, leading us out - to ministry, to people. Help us to share His love, Your

love. Lord, in your Mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for those who rejoice this week as they celebrate their birthday espe-

cially; David, Carlos, Otis, Veronica, Santiago, Judith , Verona, Shawn, Kris-

tle, Angel, Ruben, Leo, Liliana .….and those celebrating a wedding anni-

versary; Dennis & Ethlyn Moody,.. that they might obtain joy and gladness,

and sorrow and sighing might flee away. Lord, in your Mercy, hear our prayer.

Have compassion on those who suffer from any grief or trouble: Isabel, Min-

nel, Mark Jr.,... and those whom we may name at this time. That they may be

delivered from their distress. Lord in your Mercy, hear our prayer.

Welcome with your divine pleasure all who have died, especially—

Ana Myrian Valbuena, that they may have a place in your eternal

domains. Let light perpetual shine upon them. Lord, in your Mercy, hear

our prayer.

Put divine trust into the hearts of the leaders of our nation, especially

Donald, our president, Rick, our governor , Gregory, our mayor and

of all in authority, that they may cooperate with your work to build com-

munities of peace throughout the world. Lord, in your Mercy, hear our

prayer.

We pray for all bishops, priests, and deacons, especially: Justin, Arch-

bishop of Canterbury; Michael, our Presiding Bishop; Gregory, our bish-

op; Orlando, our dean and vicar; Bill, Pepe, and Jamie, our clergy, that

they may be faithful ministers of your Word and Sacraments.

Lord, in your Mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all clergy spouses, especially: Laura Lee, Martha, Paula, Da-

vid, and Olga. We thank them for suppor ting their husbands and

wife; we ask God to strengthen their marriage and their families every-

day; send people to encourage them in their daily lives, and may your

Holy Spirit empower and equip them to do your will. Lord, in your Mer-

cy, hear our prayer.

We pray, O Lord, for the men and women of our Armed Forces, saying:

Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all

the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad, espe-

cially: Warren, Janesse, Abdullah, Joshua, Preston, Shane, Caleb,

Junior, Chelsea, Tyrone, Melva, Dilson, Paul, James, Santiago, Jon,

Larissa, Rawlyn, Emily, Noah, Christela, Ashley, Diana and Angel…

Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them

in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils,

which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence

wherever they may be. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Gracious God, your truth is a lamp shining in the darkness of this world's

confusion and a fire burning in the coldness of human need. Let this of-

fering and the dedication of our hearts and minds and souls be used to

Dios Todopoderoso, ante la pasión de tu Hijo, revelaste su gloria sobre el

monte santo. Concédenos que nosotros, viendo por la fe la luz de su semblante,

podamos fortalecernos para llevar nuestra cruz. En verdad, oh Señor, danos la

visión de ver más allá de la convulsión de nuestro mundo y contemplarlo en

toda Su gloria mientras oramos; Señor, en tu Misericordia, escucha nuestra

oración.

Dios, en la Santa Montaña abrimos nuestros ojos y vemos a Jesús, los meses de

ministerio transfigurados a un haz de luz, a la luz del mundo, a tu luz. Que tu

luz siempre brille sobre nosotros. Señor, en tu Misericordia, escucha nuestra

oración.

Oh Dios, abrimos los ojos y vemos a Moisés y Elías con Jesús, tu palabra,

restaurándonos, mostrándonos el camino, contando una historia, tu historia, su

historia, nuestra historia. Que tu palabra nos hable siempre. Señor, en tu

Misericordia, escucha nuestra oración.

Oh Dios, abrimos nuestros ojos y vemos niebla, la nube de tu presencia, que

nos asegura de todo lo que no sabemos y que no necesitamos temer eso.

Enséñanos a confiar. Señor, en tu Misericordia, escucha nuestra oración.

Oh Dios, abrimos los ojos y vemos las construcciones de Pedro, sus mejores

planes, nuestros mejores planes, nuestra falta del punto, nuestra falta del

camino.... Perdona nuestra estupidez y nuestro pecado. Señor, en tu

Misericordia, escucha nuestra oración.

Oh Dios, abrimos los ojos y vemos a Jesús, no echándonos, sino que

guillándonos hacia abajo, hacia el ministerio, hacia la gente. Ayúdanos a

compartir su amor, tu amor. Señor, en tu Misericordia, escucha nuestra oración.

Oramos por los que se alegran en celebración de su cumpleaños,

especialmente, David, Carlos, Otis, Veronica, Santiago, Judith, Verona,

Shawn, Kristle, Angel, Ruben, Leo, Liliana y para los que celebran otro

aniversario de bodas, Dennis & Ethlyn Moody para que tengan gozo y alegría,

a lo mismo que desaparecen el dolor y el llanto. Señor, en tu Misericordia,

Da consuelo con tu Espíritu vivificante a aquéllos por quienes oramos,
