DESIGN BRIEFPoetics in Digital Tectonics:

Modern architecture is invariably as much about structure and construction as it is about space and abstract form. (Kenneth Frampton). This studio is interested in design narrative as well as discovering the beautiful and atmo-spherical qualities in digital fabrication. Through combination of both we aim to create poetic responses to the existing conditions of MerriCreek.

DESIGN BRIEF ANALYSISDESIGN NARRATIVE NARRATIVE: • A story, encapsulating a deeper and more critical meaning behind the design itself • It brings to an observers mind, questions such as “what’s the driver or story behind the overall form?”, “what story is this design trying to share with me?” • Can be written, illustrated, or spoken etc.

POETIC RESPONSES POETRY: • Associated with stories and narratives, for it can tell a tale • An expression and form of art • Relationship to sounds and music • Like a narrative, it can be shared and told in so many different ways

DESIGN AGENDATo illustrate and design by harnessing and translating the various sounds that reside at both MerriCreek and the Abbotsford Convent, into either a sculp-tural form, or an artistic and poetic illustration of the information. To create a sense of relationship between the two places.
