From the Pastor / Del Párroco

Queridos feligreses,

Que se llenen con las bendiciones de la paz y el

amor durante la temporada de Navidad.

Durante la temporada de Adviento, hemos refle-

xionado sobre la carta encíclica del Papa Francis-

co, Laudato Si ': Sobre el cuidado de nuestro ho-

gar común. Este documento nos llama a ser mejo-

res administradores de la creación, la tierra que

nos sostiene. Que todos nosotros tratemos de cui-

dar a la madre tierra a través de la conservación,

el reciclaje y otras medidas para reducir el calen-

tamiento global y otras fuentes de contaminación.

El viernes 28 de diciembre, a las 7:00 p.m., pre-

setamos la película, el Papa Francisco: Un hom-

bre de su palabra.

Al igual que nuestra Patron, San Gabriel, quien

anunció a la Virgen María que ella sería la madre

de Dios, nuestra Parroquia continúa anunciando

la presencia de Cristo de muchas maneras. El año

pasado, hemos continuado viendo un crecimiento

en nuestra parroquia, el número de personas que

celebran los Sacramentos, la formación religiosa y

nuestro alcance social. Continuamos nuestro apo-

yo a nuestra parroquia hermana en Chel, Guate-

mala; nos estamos preparando para proveer un

segundo hospital en Dimbokro, Costa de Marfil;

nuestra sociedad de San Vicente de Paúl continúa

respondiendo a las necesidades de nuestro vecin-

dario; nuestro ministerio de salud continúa moni-

toreando las condiciones de salud y ofrece vacu-

nas contra la gripe; y los feligreses ayudan y cui-

dan a otros en tiempos de enfermedad, muerte o

problemas económicos. La parroquia de San Ga-

briel también ha participado en acciones especia-

les para apoyar a nuestra comunidad de inmi-

grantes aquí y en la frontera.

La parroquia de San Gabriel está trabajando con el

documento de los Obispos de los Estados Unidos,

“Viviendo como discípulos misioneros”. Los obispos

enfatizan cuatro pasos para aumentar el discipula-

do: Encuentro, Acompañamiento, Comunidad y En-

vío. La Navidad es un momento increíble para este

modelo: nos encontramos con el Dios nacido entre

nosotros, nos acompañamos a la cuna y más allá,

formamos la comunidad de Cristo y luego continua-

mos su misión.

Dear Parishioners,

May you be filled with the blessings of peace and

love during the Season of Christmas.

During the Season of Advent we have reflected on

the encyclical letter of Pope Francis, Laudato Si’:

On the Care for our Common Home. This docu-

ment calls us to become better stewards of crea-

tion, the earth that sustains us. May all of us

seek to care for mother earth through conserva-

tion, recycling, and other measures to reduce

global warming and other sources of pollution. On

Friday, December 28, 7:00 p.m., we presented

the movie, Pope Francis: A Man of his Word.

Like our Patron, Saint Gabriel, who announced to

the Virgin Mary that she would be the mother of

God, our Parish continues to announce the pres-

ence of Christ in many ways. This past year we

have continued to see growth in our parish, the

numbers of those celebrating Sacraments, reli-

gious formation, and our social outreach. We

continue our support to our sister parish in Chel,

Guatemala; we are preparing to resource a sec-

ond hospital in Dimbokro, Ivory Coast; our Saint

Vincent de Paul society continues to respond to

the needs of our neighborhood; our health minis-

try continues to monitor health conditions and of-

fered flu shots; and parishioners help and care for

another in times of sickness, death, or economic

problems. Saint Gabriel Parish has also been in-

volved in special actions to support our immigrant

community here and at the border.

Saint Gabriel Parish is working with the United

States Bishops document, “Living as Missionary

Disciples.” The bishops emphasize four steps in

increasing discipleship: Encounter, Accompani-

ment, Community, and Sending. Christmas is an

incredible moment for this model: we encounter

the God born among us, we accompany each oth-

er to the crib and beyond, we form the community

of Christ, and then continue his mission.
