primera vez. Nuestro papá, Alfonso, nos
sirvió huevos con
jamón, plátanos, y jugo
de naranja. El me
preguntó si yo prefería
tomar café o solamente
jugo; a partir de ese
momento, yo empecé a
tomar café para ganar
un poco de sofisticación
en México y desayunar
con un señor muy
admirado en la comunidad. Él nos dijo que
nos había preparado unos almuerzos
individuales para la excursión a
Teotihuacán. Jasón y yo caminamos a
entrevista me
preugntaron cómo me
sentía de estar en
México otra vez.

Finalmente, acompañamos a dos
grupos de estudiantes en camión de
Cemanahuac hasta Teotihuacán. Charlie,
nuestro guía y codueño de Cemanahuac,
nos enseñó las casas
incompletas en la
carretera y nos explicó
que la gente pobre no
puede ahorrar dinero
por mucho tiempo
porque siempre hay
mucho que reparar y pagar. Por eso,
cuando una familia humilde gana algún
dinero, lo gasta casi inmediatamente. Me
Me
divertido.
Sunday, June 28, Jason and I had breakfast at the Toledo house for the first time. For us,
our father, Alfonso, set the table with some eggs with ham, bananas, and orange juice. Instantly,
he asked me if I preferred drinking coffee or only the juice; in that moment, I started drinking
coffee again to earn a little sophistication in Mexico and breakfast very intimately with a much-‐
admired man in the community. He told us that he had prepared a few individual lunches for
the trip to Teotihuacan occurring later in the morning. Jason and I walked to Cemanahuac -‐ the
elegant school in Las Palmas for intensive exchange and learning Spanish-‐and the familiarity of
the odors, great faces, and nature around the building relaxed me. Before leaving for
Teotihuacan, we CSCC students had to complete an interview to place us in the appropriate
classes; the interview was about being in Mexico. Finally we accompanied two other groups of
students by the school´s excursion bus to Teotihuacan: Charlie, our guide and co-‐owner of
Cemanahuac, showed us the incomplete houses along the road, and explained to us that people
cannot save their money because there are always expenses involved in building and
maintaining a home. For this reason, when a humble family has any money, almost
immediately the family uses it. I was sad to learn this and to see that important rooms were
missing from the small houses. First, we stopped at Cuicuilco to discuss the mysterious origin of
the people of Teotihuacan. The history of the land and the fights amongst the groups in order
to keep more than enough acres of land interested me. Eventually the gods were angry, and the
eruption of the volcano caused the need for the migration of the future inhabitants of
Teotihuacan. It fascinated me to see the sacrifice altars, sacred baths, and significant pyramids.
We climbed them until the heavy rain came. The group separated, and a teacher and I searched
for Charlie and the yellow bus. In the end, all the students and instructors were super wet, but
the trip was fun.
